Writing Is Hard Work.

Stay drunk on writing so reality can't destroy you.

Those of you who think that I should change my major because it's "easy", I think it's time you sit down in the library for 10 hours and tell me just how easy it is to be a writer. Not so easy huh? I'm going to explain the process behind what truly goes into an article.

Step 1

Coming up with an idea

LET ME TELL YOU. Coming up with an idea or topic that hasn't already been written about is hard. And by hard I mean, nearly impossible.

Step 2

When writing about this topic that isn't "new"

Now you have to take the same post that 57 other people have written about breaking up with their significant other, you now have to make this totally and completely original. #bet

Step 3

Words. Because words are hard.

Now that we have a somewhat original piece, let's make it sound like we know what we're talking about. Shall we? Let's all take a journey to a little thing I like to call a Thesaurus. When I want to sound like I'm smart, I pull up the handy dandy Thesaurus and plug in some oh so basic words and find something to jazz it up a bit.

Ex: Quaint = erratic, whimsical, fanciful, idiosyncratic. Genius, right?

Step 4

The flow

Now that we have a few things in place, let's make this who shindig collide together in perfect harmony and make it seem like it was supposed to end like this.

Step 5

Readable

After you spend a solid 5 hours working on those steps, now it's time to actually delete everything you've done so far, and 110% change it up because no one is going to want to read what you just put down on your keyboard. So let's start again, new topic, new words, never everything.

Making a piece some off as something others want to read is extremely difficult. Everything you write, you want others to like. But hey, second-guessing and overthinking everything is only half the job.

Step 6

Being Open

While most people may think that being a writer is just being a good storyteller, I'm here to literally tell you, you're insane. Every single article I have written is me sitting and pouring out my heart, soul, mind, and body. You may read it and say "hey, they really hit home for me", just know I cried having to relive those harsh painful memories over and over to make this piece as alluring as it seems to you.

Step 7

Views

Yes, I get paid on views. So please read. Thank you.

Step 8

Who reads

As soon as you get that little notification saying that your article has posted, you sit and wait for the person you wrote about notices. Whether they just want you to know they read it by throwing you a like, or if they actually want to talk about if they shoot you a text. It's nerve wracking.

Step 9

Adding to step 8...

Having your life all split out for everyone to read is difficult. Not going to lie to you, being an open book, isn't always the easiest thing. Although writing comes seemingly easy to me, the thing that never gets easier is writing about all the hard things in life that shape you. Not always the most cheerful or heartwarming words to spill out on paper.

Step 10

Picture

Now that we finally have something down on paper, it's time to find a picture that fits perfectly with what we're talking about. If it isn't the absolute perfect picture, you can kiss your views goodbye. For all people really look for is an interesting image to click on.

Step 11

More Words

TITLE. Now the absolute most important part of the article. Coming up with a catchy title, that's short, to the point, and address perfectly what you're talking about. If the title is boring people aren't going to care whatsoever about what you're writing has to say. Your title is the lure to all the little fish hungry for some clever bits of writing.

Being a writer isn't easy. In fact most of the time we like to think that we're so much different for everyone else. Sitting down and instantly hopping off into your own little world because you thought of a good topic. Even Thinking everyone looks at you just a little funny due to the way you look at things and the way you're so open about your whole life. Maybe I'm an old soul, or maybe I'm just ahead of my time.

Now that we've spent 2 weeks on a 500+ word article, we're finally able to actually submit the work to your two editors. Who in turn will truly be your lifesaver. Once this is done, you realize you have to post once a week and that you're already a week behind.

On to the next piece.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
