A Writer's Guide To Writer's Block

If you are like me, working for an online publication and having a deadline at the end of every week for an article, you occasionally get writer’s block. Well, in my case, I am always getting writer’s block. Every week is a struggle in finding something new and enticing to write about. Trying to create a piece that will grab readers’ attention, keep them interested, and hopefully end the reading in sharing my article is something I would always love to see happen, although this is not always the case.

A lot can happen in one day. Often times we are bombarded with responsibilities and tasks that take over the day and force us to move aside from what we would rather do, like write or take time for ourselves. Granted this is not always the case, but we are very busy people! What does this have to do with writers block? Well, it is hard to come up with ideas when there are other things of importance in our lives. We are often distracted by what is currently going on that writers do not always have their creative juices flowing!

So, what a can you do during a long and consistent time of writers block?

  1. Take a walk on the beach
  2. Watch YouTube videos of the insane things Trump supporters say that they believe to be true. Like this one here.
  3. Go to a quiet space and “find yourself.”
  4. Take your dog (or cat if you are into that) on a walk.
  5. Binge watch a whole season on Netflix.
  6. Start and finish Game Of Thrones.
  7. Hangout with your friends.
  8. Hangout with your dogs.
  9. Hangout by yourself.
  10. Gawk at all of the things online you wish you could buy.
  11. Read the dictionary front to back.
  12. Paint a picture.
  13. Troll any social media you follow until you have stalked as far back as middle school.
  14. Eat a cupcake.
  15. Eat a cookie.
  16. Eat cake.
  17. Take a nap.
  18. Go on a nice long walk.
  19. Try to come up with something to write about.
  20. Get distracted and go back to the other thing you were doing while you were trying to figure out something to write about.
  21. Make a dinner.
  22. Listen to a podcast.
  23. Do anything other than have writers block.
  24. Train for a marathon.
  25. Write about all of the things you could be doing while you are trying to get through having writers block.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
