Kevin Hart said it best, straight up, and honest. It is so easy to fall victim to caring too much about someone else’s perception of you. But is it necessarily a problem? Well, not exactly. It is human nature to care and express emotion. It is fair to agree to this statement because that is how we are as individuals. Think for a moment. How do you perceive someone who is straight-faced, quiet, and says “I don’t care” or “whatever” more often than not? Don’t we tend to think of he or she as monotone, aloof, and indifferent? Or even inexpressive or dispassionate? Quite frankly, yes. As humans, we judge. We see and hear, and we judge and we feel. Using up so much energy to care about what someone else thinks of you is nonetheless a MAJOR waste of your precious time.
Has your mother ever told you not to talk about someone who you are not with? This rule still applies to us adults, not just the age when we wore velcro, light-up sneakers. Is it not hurtful to find out someone is spreading false rumors or is making you second guess yourself everyday? So why on earth would you ever create a false impression of someone (who you may not even know) when you know exactly just how it feels to be on the opposite end of the spectrum?
We should not do that to others, including ourselves. Yes, I have cried as a kid because of other girls judging me. Yes, I have begged my mom to let me stay home from school because I knew (or so I thought) people would look right at my massive breakout of acne on my face. Yes, I have become defensive and sensitive due to what I felt people were saying about me. Now, it is an embrace, which has allowed me to transform from shy and quiet to pretty confident and out-spoken. If someone is openly judging someone, that is their fault, but there is no time and place for it. Why doesn't he or she utilize their precious time and make something of themselves and become productive instead of caring so much about what others do, look like, or carry themselves. Unless it is about Donald Trump, then there is no need to make someone the talk of the day. Let him be him, let her be her, and let everyone live their own lives as it should be. If you have nothing nice to say (or think), then do not say anything at all.
