So world snake day was a week ago, and I would like to share some fun facts about snakes that I have learned from my own scaly friends at home
1. Snakes shed their skin.
While everyone probably knows this cool fact, did you know that they also shed the skin off of their eyes? These are called eye caps and are extremely cool to find on a shed.
2. Some snakes, like the corn snake, pretend to have rattles.
My corn snake used to do this weird thing with her tail that would sound like a rattlesnake. What happens is, when the snake is frightened or defensive, they flick their tail really fast against the grass causing a very cool sound.
3. Snakes have no dander.
When choosing a pet for someone who is allergic to pet dander, maybe think about getting a snake. With those cool scales, snake produce no pet dander and are sneeze free!
4. Snakes are great for gardens.
Rodents are a wild snakes favorite treat. Having a snake in your garden is a great pest control because snakes don't eat anything in your garden except the mice. Did you know that wild snakes eat insects and slugs too?
5. Snakes make great pets.
As a proud owner of two ball pythons, I can say that snakes are great pets. Snakes are low maintenance, cost effective, and aren't as harmful as you would think. Hand training a snake takes about a week, and once a week is when they eat. If you want a ball python, they are easy to handle, and not very active. Snakes make great companions and are great for the world. So happy snake day everyone!
