World On Fire: Terrorism

I'm sure you all have heard of the Paris attacks that took place just recently. Other threats and attacks
have taken place in the past few months and years and to some of you it may be easy to ignore, but to others it may be hard. You may be wondering when it will happen next or where it will happen next, and maybe even why it is happening in the first place. But why did Hitler, or other various historic savages, do what they did? What is and was their motives? Maybe psychological defects, or the way they grew up, who they grew up around, or revenge of some kind, maybe jealousy, or just a strive for power.

The group of terrorists behind the Paris bombings and shootings are just another one of these historic savages. They will be beaten, but we have to be strong and know what they are planning, understand why they are doing these things and who they are targeting. Well, they are targeting Americans and the American-allied nations. They want to take us down, take over, and hurt anyone considered to be of the above. The thing is, you cannot help where you are born, what race you are. We did not choose where our lives began. We are not the ones putting ourselves in danger. It is those in power that have put us in this position, endangering us because of the mistakes they made, or their bravery; meaning the brave mistakes of helping others in need and upsetting the wrong people. Who knows where they will attack next? But it seems pretty clear that they are targeting our allies and our people, possibly to get into our heads, our hearts, and break us down. They want to eliminate all of our defenses, and upset us to take action. We must keep our heads clear, and realize they are just humans.

These terror groups that have been attacking our fellow Americans, our allies, and family are something unspeakable, a disgrace to the human name, but they are just humans. They can be hurt back, bleed, and die just like anyone else. The only thing we can do is prepare for the worst and hope that our military can get it under control. Perhaps some of you want to join the fight, or help in other ways like raising awareness and helping the families of the dead and that is an amazing thing to do, a brave thing to do, an American thing to do, the right thing to do, but perhaps some of you want to hide and never come out of your homes or never leave for that vacation you planned because of the unknown possibility that you could be the next victim. Get this out of your head, it is a very real possibility, but do not let it control your life. Control your fears and be the strong American that you are, because something big may be coming.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
