10 World-Changing Women Who Define Women's History Month And Prove Females Can Do Anything

Yes, this world can be known as a man's world, but women have also had to work very hard, if not harder, to get to where we are today.

As you may know, March is Women's History Month. Believe it or not, just like men, women have also done just as much to have the voice they have today. In history, there have many women who have worked amazingly hard to let us have the privileges today, but here are 10 of the countless women who have made and still make an impact.


1. Rosa Parks

Rosa Parks was an African American women who sparked the Civil Rights Movements. When she refused to give up her bus seat to a white man, she initiated a change that needed to be done regarding racism. Even though she was arrested for this act of bravery, she proved to be successful because many African American people started to boycott the buses. Rosa Parks was an influential woman because, by this act of heroism, she made her statement against segregation and created change in American social aspects.

2. Indira Gandhi

Indira Gandhi was the third prime minister of India and was successful in getting food to her people during the time of war with Pakistan and ending the war with various agreements with Pakistani officials. Even when India was in the middle of a very bloody battle, she did not give up until she had made an agreement in order to stop it. She showed that no matter what, if you keep fighting for what you believe is right, the end results will show.

3. Marie Curie

Marie Curie was a physicist and chemist, which was pretty rare for women in her time. She discovered two elements and the science behind radioactivity, and not only did she win the Nobel Peace Prize once for physics, she won it another time for chemistry. This made her the first women in history to win a Nobel Peace Prize and the first person in history to win two of them. She proved that women can do anything to be true.

4. Amelia Earhart

Amelia Earhart was an American aviator who set many records. One of these records includes the fact that she was the first female to ever fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. Even though her death, till today, is a true mystery, she truly showed everyone that we can fly to success.

5. Helen Keller

Helen Keller was a woman who was deaf and blind at the age of two after she had gotten a very severe illness. Though she had these two disabilities, that did not stop her from being successful. With the help of many, she became an educator and a leading humanitarian along with being the founder of American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU). She showed us that there is no obstacle that one can not overcome.

6. Margret Thatcher

Being Prime Minister for a whole country is a lot of work, but imagine being the first. Margret Thatcher was the first female Prime Minister of Britain. Even though many of her ideas were controversial, she was still able to make her country better by making alliances with other countries that helped her in the future.

7. Elizebeth I

Elizabeth the First was the queen of England. She single-handedly ruled England with stability and success. While in her position, Elizabeth created so much prosperity in her country with arts and music. She was so successful during her reign that it was named the Elizabethan Era. In her own way, even many years ago, she showed the world that girls can also do what men can do with success.

8. Malala Yousafzai

Malala Yousafzai is a children's activist who went against the Taliban and was imperative in making her statement that women should also get an education. The fact that she was shot just a few years ago for making such a statement goes to prove that no matter how women there are, men will always bully them, but it is not always true. Malala survived her shot. She received a Nobel Peace Prize and till today is fighting for women and education.

9. Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is basically everything. She is a philanthropist to an actress to a producer. With a troubled childhood, she showed us if one were to truly believe they can be amazingly successful no matter what. She empowers women every day with her talk show to her acting to her simply talking to them.

10. Michelle Obama

Michelle Obama was a lawyer before becoming the first African American First Lady in office. During her time in office, she became an activist for health, education and poverty. Her time in, before and after the office has shown us that no matter where you are you can still make a difference. It proves that one does not have to be famous in order to get a certain point across. She has been fighting for the people forever and until the end.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.
