For those of you who have a summer job, I feel your pain. But for those of you who have a summer job that has you working weekends, I feel your pain even more. When do people usually do fun things? The weekend. When are the parties you want to attend? Friday through Sunday. When is everyone else spending a few days relaxing? You guessed it, the weekend. It’s a painful exchange for those of us who are weekend working warriors, when a friend hits you with the, “What are you doing tonight?” text message, Snapchat or phone call. Our response, “Well I work this weekend so nothing”, “Sleeping because I have to work this weekend” and my favorite, in pure denial that you really don’t have the freedom to be unsure of your plans for the evening, “Idk yet hbu?!”. To that our friends send a hardly empathetic reply leaving the conversation as quickly as they came, “Oh that sucks, ttyl!”, because our dismal attitudes are being detected even through a signal in the sky, and they don’t want it wearing off on them. That would be a tragedy, it’s their time to party and have a great time! To the people out there who simply do not work weekends, let me explain this a little better so you can get a better grasp on the struggles us as weekend working warriors must face every five days.
1. You just got off work on a Friday evening and your phone starts lighting up with all those texts asking what’s up for the night:
2. All those “TGIF!” tweets and Facebook posts that you ‘like’ but can’t actually relate to:
3. Before you go to bed at 9 P.M. on Friday night (because of course you need to be up at ungodly hours the next morning), you must endure all the Snapchat stories and other social media posts of your friends having fun without you:
4. As you are waking up at that ungodly hour, you inherently check to see if your friends are up still having fun. Guess what? They are:
5. But you try your best to be positive about anything. Even if it’s the mediocre microwavable Eggo waffles you made for breakfast:
6. As you are arriving at work at another ungodly hour, you and your coworkers must push each other so you can make it through the day, sometimes literally:
7. But by mid-day everyone’s on their own in the motivation department:
8. Saturday night and you’re still getting those “What’s going on tonight?” texts:
9. Sunday afternoon when you’re finally free is the best feeling the weekend working warriors can experience. And really nothing sounds better than just passing out on the floor immediately after getting home:
10. One feeling that can possibly top the relief of Sunday night, is pay day, that’s when it all pays off (pun intended):
11. But as soon as someone asks you to cover a shift or work some overtime you forget all about that glorious cash, It’s just not worth it:
12. Last but not least, you get to hear your friends’ fun stories from the weekend which you were not present for:
All in all, it’s a struggle and it takes some willpower. But the people you work with or the work you do can make it a little more enjoyable:
