Want to do something crazy incredible, crazy fun, and crazy worthwhile this summer? Want to grow in your faith and make the most incredible friendships? Have absolutely no clue what you want to do with your summer? Apply to work at kamp! Kanakuk Kamps are about to be on college campuses across the country, and here's everything you need to know about why you need to apply to work at kamp.
You get three summers throughout college to do whatever you want. So, why not spend a summer wearing face glitter and costumes? Why not spend a summer playing outside with kids all day long? Why not spend a summer sharing the Gospel with your own kampers?
Because you have to make money, right? You make money at kamp, and since you're at kamp all summer, it goes straight to your savings! You don't have time to spend the money you make before the school year.
Because you have to get an internship, right? You have three college summers. Work one summer at kamp, and you still have two whole summers to get an internship!
Or because you're not qualified, right? Hear it from past Kanakuk employees themselves:
"It's funny because if you ask people who work at kamp, they'll usually tell you th
"Do not feel like you are inadequate to work at a camp. They are not looking for someone who has it all together; they are looking for someone who is willing to be used by God! He is so faithful to provide wisdom in situations that you didn't think you could handle. Come willing to learn and grow and you will be fine!" -Rylee Pittman
You don't have to be qualified and equipped. In fact, kamp would probably rather have you not be. The more unequipped you realize are, the more you realize you have to rely on the Lord. The more you rely on the Lord, the more He'll be able to work through you to reach and impact your kampers.
amp isn't just for the kampers. It's impossible to leave the gates of kamp at the end of summer not having personally gained something. In fact, you'll probably have gained more than you ever would at any other job.
"I would say camp gave me so much more confidence. I grew in my faith, I grew in patience and I received important skills. I left with friendships that are still very dear to me. The things and experiences that you get out of camp are invaluable and truly worth missing out on building your resume or getting an internship." Rylee Pittman
"First off, the friends I made at kamp are some of my best friends. Even though we worked for just a couple short months together, we do life together while having some raw community. Because you get to know people at their worst and best and be intentional with daily conversation, kamp friendships are so close and last far beyond the summer. The other thing I left kamp with was just a spiritual boost sending me back onto my campus. You get to pour out and be poured into from the leadership staff while being isolated from the world for a just a short time, which is rare. Getting to separate yourself from the things of the world and just bask in community and serve and love others is unreal. Kamp has taught me and left with so many things I can't put into words." - Billy Popoff
"Kamp gave me a greater assurance in who I was - a follower of Jesus Christ. Two hundred years from now people will probably have no recollection of my time on Earth. However, they will know the name of Jesus; growing the Kingdom of God while I'm given life on this beautiful earth is what I am called to do." Gabe Gudgel
"Kamp taught me so many things in the short time I was there: humility, patience, how to love those who are different from me and desperate dependence on the Lord. I learned that the Lord uses broken people to reach broken people. I learned to ask God for patience and love for others in the moments when it was really difficult. At kamp, I couldn't get through my days without going to God's word multiple times a day, and I realized that's how we should live every single day in every season." Annie Walker
Having worked at kamp myself, I can attest to the fact that it is the happiest place on earth. There is nowhere else in the world where you get to wear face paint and tutus every day. There is nowhere else in the world that provides such intentional and raw friendships. There is nowhere else in the world where you will learn true humility and dependence on the Lord. There is nowhere else in the world where you will experience so much joy by seeing Him work in and transform the lives of kiddos within just a few days.
If you've never read the book of Ruth, it's about a woman, Naomi, and her new daughter in law, Ruth. Although Naomi's husband and sons have all passed away, Ruth refuses to leave her. As they are desperate to provide for themselves, Ruth goes to the fields to find bundles of grain that were left behind. It's a simple act, but it has a huge meaning. Ruth didn't sit in her home and pray for the Lord to provide food for her and Naomi; instead, she went out in action and let a supernatural God naturally provide for her. If you can't decide what you want to do with your summer, or if you're not quite sure yet, or why not provide an open door for the future? Why not go ahead and apply instead of possibly regretting not applying in the future? An application is simply an open door, not a commitment.
You don't have to have spent years at Kanakuk to work there. You don't have to be super sporty to work there. You don't have to feel equipped and knowledgeable and worthy to work there.
"Just go for it! If you want to have a stagnant and dull summer, don't work at Kanakuk. A summer at Kanakuk will challenge you in your faith, bless you with knowledge, and introduce you to life-long friends." Gabe Gudgel
If you apply to one job this summer, make sure it's
