Although I am excited for the school year to start up again, I am sad to see this wonderful summer come to an end. I think the thing I’m going to miss the most is waking up at the crack of dawn, putting on one of many camp shirts I own, and heading out to work with my sister. That’s right I work every day, multiple hours a day with the girl that I used to share a room with. Now you may be thinking, isn’t that a little too much family togetherness?. Don’t get me wrong I was really worried about working with a family member, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. Working with my sister has been one of the greatest experiences I’ve had in a long time. So I’m telling you to work with your sibling!
I’ve had a hard summer. I’ve had things that have made me become a little sensitive, dramatic if you will. My sister knows my past, present, and future. She knows exactly what makes me upset and how to make me feel better (sort of). Just the expression on my face is a tell for her, so when I was having a bad day at work she knows, then she does what she knows will make me feel better. As long as my sister is there I will always have someone to talk to and look out for me. I really couldn't ask for a better coworker.
Another reason why I love working with my sister is we always have something to talk about at home and at work. While we are working we talk about what’s going on outside of work and at home we talk about work. We are camp counselors so we work with a lot of kids. At the dinner table we tell our family about all of the things that happen at camp. The fam basically knows all of our kids by name because of the stories we share. One of my other favorite things is when my sister comes into my room and talks about the day or the week to come regarding camp. It definitely makes working that much more enjoyable. Working together has really brought us closer together and it makes me so happy to call my sister one of my best friends.
The car rides to camp are one of my favorite things. We play are pump up music to get ready for the day and sometimes we stop for breakfast or coffee at McDonald's. The car is also a place where we gossip about any and all the above. I love spending time with her but the moments that we can just reflect on the day ahead of us are just the best.
All and all I think the decision to work with my sister has been one of the best ideas I've had! It has done nothing but bring us closer together and I'm so thankful for that. This experience has been so unique and special i'm going to miss working at camp when I go back to school, but I’ll miss my sister more and the connections we made through camp.
