I hate the pictures floating around that say, "This is why you should take a girl swimming on your first date," paired with a picture of a girl with makeup on and a picture of that same girl without makeup on. I don't know when boys started thinking that girls wore makeup for the sole purpose of impressing them but you boys really need to get over yourselves and realize that I am not winging my eyeliner and contouring my cheekbones for your viewing pleasure. It is for me and only me.
Girls spend years trying to master the "no-makeup" makeup look because it is "always best to look natural and not over-done." I don't understand this. If you're trying to look natural, then don't wear makeup. I don't care if the boys say they prefer their girls looking natural if you wanna wear eye shadow and contour and false lashes then do it. The boys and other judgmental girls will just have to get over it. I enjoy getting up extra early to get ready and do my hair and makeup. I see nothing wrong with it and I will spend as much time as I want doing it, because I didn't wake up this morning to spend an hour doing an everyday no-makeup makeup look for someone who wouldn't even know the difference between liquid and gel liner.
I don't care if you look at my eyeshadow and eyeliner and think, "There has to be a reason for her to wear that much makeup," because there is a reason for it. I enjoy it. Whole-heartedly, I enjoy doing my makeup. It gets my day started and it makes me feel good about myself throughout the entire day. Do I have confidence without doing my makeup? Of course. Because my confidence doesn't stem from my makeup look that day, it stems internally from my love for myself. My confidence is what keep me from caring if you think that makeup is a bad thing.
If you enjoy doing your makeup, don't let anyone stop you from doing it. If you don't enjoy doing your makeup, then don't do it but respect people who do. If makeup helps you feel better about yourself for the day, then embrace that and accentuate the features on your face that you love. Makeup can truly be a form of art for your face and anyone who disagrees with that has clearly never faced the struggle of perfecting your winged eyeliner and blending eyeshadows.
Don't let the world trick you into believing that the only acceptable way to wear makeup is in order to achieve a no-makeup makeup look. Don't let dumb boys tell you if you're wearing too much makeup because they probably smell bad anyways. Wear makeup for no one but yourself. Do you hair for no one but yourself. And always remember that you are beautiful with or without your makeup.
