It Won't Be A Happy New Year

This year will not have resolutions but revolutions.

It Won't Be A Happy New Year

It seems that most people are in consensus that 2016 really fucked all of us, hard.

We’ve had one of the most controversial elections in recent history, along with some big European drama that ended in a harsh break up.

The year 2016 pushed many to their breaking points, and made people question their family and friends’ morals and ideals. One thing that was made clear in 2016, is that this country is still run with a lot of racism, bigotry, and prejudices.

It opened the eyes of many and exposed many more for who they truly are.

Not only did we have to greet an idiot with a bad spray-on as our new leader; but we also have to say goodbye to one of the strongest and most uplifting presidents we have had for some time: President Barack Obama.

It took away several personalities and celebrities that were loved by many like Muhammad Ali, David Bowie, George Michael, and Carrie Fischer just to name a few.

It was a year that really tested our patience as a nation when multiple injustices happened repeatedly across the country. From the unspeakable events that transpired in Orlando; to a young man by the name of Brock Turner getting a slap on the wrist as punishment for an offense that deserved years of incarceration.

But 2016 did not stop there, it had pushed our patience even further, when police shootings happened so often; that city streets would fill with the blood of the innocent and profiled.

And even that would not be enough for this year; we also saw the destruction of the homes and lives of thousands in Syria and across the world. There was also an allowance of terrorists groups like ISIS to run their operations and do as they please with whomever they pleased.

So yeah, 2016 really fucked us over, but it also made us stronger. It made us stronger mentally, it made us stronger physically, and it made us stronger as a generation. The year 2016 gave us millennials the opportunity to voice our opinions, and oppose the power when we saw fit and just to do so. In 2016, we gained the experience and the strength needed to fight back.

Our fight has just begun, and we have not seen the worst of it but we’re not backing down any time soon. This year will not have resolutions, but revolutions!

2017 watch your back -- cause we’re pissed and we’re out for blood.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
