Why My Mother Is The Strongest Woman I Know

"Mirror, mirror on the wall, I am my mother after all."

Why My Mother Is The Strongest Woman I Know
Kelly Poston

Brave. Courageous. Kind. Strong. Caring.

These are the words of many that come to mind when I hear the word, Mother.

My mother is by far the best woman I know. She is loving, intelligent, and beautiful. She has shown me compassion, strength, and determination.

From holding my hand when I was getting shots to letting me mole in-between her and dad in their bed. From supporting me when I made some pretty big decisions to encouraging me to follow my artistic hobby. From being a parent who rarely let me step out of line to a friend to talk to me through my problems.

My mother has never once doubted me when I put plans into place. Never once did she think that I would fail the second I set my mind to something. She was and still is nothing but encouragement and support in my life.

I can't tell you how many times she would look to my siblings and I and tell us how proud she is of us. Just that small appreciation every few days really did help with the confidence that lies deep inside me.

She has displayed acts of kindness through church and her work. She has shown me what a strong woman in today's society looks like and how to overcome the obstacles I will be facing. She always seems to have the advice to give me no matter what situation I am in.

As a child, I grew up looking towards Wonder Woman as my hero, but now, later here in life, I know that my mother is Wonder Woman. I know that my mother is my hero.

I could never thank my mother enough for being a role model and loving me unconditionally. I know I may drive her crazy from time to time and annoy her about petty little things, but she still listens and puts up with me.

My mother has the power to change the world and I know one day she will. I know she has changed my world and I know she is pushing me to change others.

When I think of my mother, I think of the color yellow. The color of sunflowers and sunny days. I think of her amazing paintings that always find their way into her paintings. I think of the hundreds of pumpkins that shine a bright orange with yellow accents.

For as long as I can remember, yellow has always been my favorite color, but only recently did I make the connection. Of course, when thinking of my favorite color I would think of the greatest woman in the world.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
