"Smile for the camera, eat less, hide your emotions, act stupid, be dainty"; these rules are being taught to young girls throughout the world. They are taught that beauty and having less than a voice is the ideal woman for a man. Young girls are taught that their skin tone is ugly if it is not the "perfect" complexion. Better yet, they are taught to be prepped for a man because a man will take care of them and they know what is best. Women are taught to compete against one another for a man’s attention, not to encourage one another. Instead, they are taught that other women are their competition. It does not stop there; there is the fact that we cannot dress a certain way because it shows too much skin. The fact we cannot date around because we are instantly “slut shamed.” The fact that we cannot have higher paying jobs because we do not have a voice that can be heard. This does not make sense; this is not the 1940s, this is 2016.
Why are women being shamed for their bodies by men and women? They were given their bodies by Mother Nature; we cannot help what was given to us. The way we all dress is not important to the way we act. We should not be shamed by our clothes because our shirts have a low V-neck and our skirts fall above our knees. This is not an invitation to be catcalled by men and slut-shamed by men and women. Clothes are just a way of expression; they do not define the person's morals or actions. They are just pieces of cloth that cover up body parts, which are beautiful with or without clothing. Women are also shamed for wearing too much makeup. It is not your right the shame someone for how they look.
If a woman wants to date around, that is her prerogative. Women like to do things that men also do if you happened to not notice that already. Instead of being praised for having more than one potential suitor, women are given names like "slut, whore, prostitute, and floozy." However, men do the same things! They use girls, they have multiple women at their feet, and if they sleep around, other men give them praise by calling them “pimp”(which is a terrible person in real life), player, and use the phrase that’s my boi. Why are women shamed for the same acts that men receive praise for? If men are getting praised for these actions, then women should be too. Or, if women are getting shamed for these actions, men should too, like the phrase f***boy. F***boy is a phrase that is used to demean males who use women for sexual acts and without intentions of keeping contact with them. This is a perfect phrase that compares to "whore, slut, prostitute, and floozy;" there need to be more names like the word "f***boy" to demean men the same way women are. Both women and men shame women for these actions, that is unfair, in the United States you are allowed to express yourself freely.
The Wage Gap War is something that all women face in today's society. This is due to the stigma that women are not fit for a man’s job because of their feminine qualities. According to the Institute for Women’s Policy Research, in 2015 for every dollar that a man made, the majority of women only made 79 cents. Does this seem like a fair gross factor? There are more single mothers now and they are the breadwinners for their families. Shouldn’t they deserve the same pay to support their families? Women work just as hard as men do.
There is a constant physical and emotion battle that women in our society face. They are forced to carry a stigma on how to look and how to act. Girls are supposed to be skinny to be considered attractive but need to be curvy to catch a guy’s attention. Women have this feeling that they need to be "perfect" in this world when they are already perfect in their own way. You see women dehumanizing other women for being too skinny or too curvy. You see men and women dehumanizing women for doing a man’s job. I have a news flash for everyone who thinks that women are dainty and cannot have a voice: we are not trophies, we have loud opinions, most believe in equality, and we do not need a man to complete our lives, we like to have the company.
