I Woke Up Like This

No Really I Did

I Woke Up Like This

There are some of us girls (and guys) who just don't want to spend extra time in the morning fixing our hair when we could be sleeping. Embracing your natural hair and allowing it to go wild can actually have some fantastic consequences.

1. You would so rock a post-apocalyptic dystopian society with no hair care because your hair does just fine when left to its' own devices.

2. When people tell you your hair looks good and you smile because you didn't brush it or anything that morning.

3. Hairstylists tell you that your hair is so pure and nice because you never straighten, curl, or blow-dry it.

4. You don't have to hide your hair on rainy days because nature is your friend.

5. You have been told you have medieval/renaissance/fantasy looking hair.

6. You hate the feel of a blow-dryer so you air dry your hair - even in -10º winter weather.

7. You may go days without washing your hair and you feel no shame for this.

8. You almost feel bad when people love your hair and ask you what you did and you have to say "I woke up and it looked like this."

9. Sometimes you go months or even years without getting an official haircut from a stylist and that is okay with you. (#selftrim)

10. When you have to put time into doing your hair into an updo you feel muscles you forgot you had. Your friends then laugh at you for being sore from brushing your hair.

11. You may wear the same hairstyle 7 days a week for a month straight and you don't even care. People used to do that all the time. Bring back the golden days!

12. Sometimes you think that if people just embraced their natural texture and hair style they would be much happier people with way more time on their hands (of course they would then lose something to complain about.)

So, if you want to wake up early and fix your hair go for it, just make sure you are doing it because you enjoy the way it feels not because you feel some sort of pressure from society to look a certain way. True beauty isn't found in a bottle, it's found in the confidence you have in who you are as a woman (or man). When you find your true beauty you are going to shine like a thousand stars whether or not you have spent time doing your hair and make-up. That is why some women look better in rags than others do in $5,000 dresses. Think about why you do the things you do.

And as for me I'm gonna continue letting my hair do its own thing on a daily basis.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
