I Took For Granted My Opportunity As A Christian

I am surrounded by lost people who are in need of a Savior.

I Took For Granted My Opportunity As A Christian
Ben White

As I live my life, I sometimes take for granted all the opportunities, tangible things, and intangible aspects of life that I have been given. There are people around me that have no clothes, no food, and no money to their name. They are wounded and broken, and they most likely have lost faith and hope. There are people who may be the richest in this world, but who know nothing of life with God. There are people who may have heard of the Lord, but do not have the freedom to praise and worship Him as we do. Then there are the people who refuse to give into the loving arms of our one true King.

One day someone asked me to think about all the people in my life I interact with on a daily basis, whether friends, family, coworkers, peers, etc. Then think about which of those people are lost and don’t know Jesus and write all the names down on a piece of paper. I was astounded at how many names I wrote down. The more I thought about it, the more names seemed to appear on the list. Majority of the people are ones I see every single day. I engage in conversations with them multiple times daily.

I am baffled at the fact that I let three years go by at college without witnessing to more people. I have been given this great opportunity to be around so many people, and I have wasted it. As a college student, I am in the perfect position to share the Gospel with so many lost individuals. It gives me the chance to learn their stories and to show them God's handprints in all of it.

What good is an opportunity when it does not glorify God?

I claim to be a Christian, yet I have failed to do the mission we were set on this earth to do. Matthew 28:19 charges us as believers with the mission to go out into the world and make disciples of all the nations, to teach them all we know about the Lord.

Saying you’re a Christian is fine and dandy, but living a godly Christian life is a whole other story.

I do not want to be the Christian that just states she loves God, goes to church, puts Bible verses as captions on photos, and so on. I want to live a life that completely glorifies God. I want my life, my existence, every fiber of my being, and every single thing I do and say to glorify the Lord. I want everyone to look at me and not see me, but God within me.

Some people, strangers or friends, may find that you are the only source of God they have. You may be the only Bible some people will ever read. So choose to live life through God’s eyes and focus on serving him and his people. Worship Him in all you do and sing His praise for all to hear. You may be the only passage into a relationship with God that many people will find.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
