9 Reasons Why You Should Consider The Greatest School In California

Kicking off the new year can be a fun and exciting time for many freshmen. Going into college you don't really know what to expect. Being away from home for the first time is often scary but exhilarating. Nobody is there to tell you what time to go to bed or make sure you get home safely. But being a freshman at Sonoma State University makes the transition just a bit easier. Here are 9 reasons why this is the best school ever.

1. Big Nite.

Big Night is a back-to-school sponsored carnival that brings every student together. Clubs, sports teams, local businesses, and greek life often participate in order to spark the interest of other students. What other school throws a carnival?

2. College Rank.

This year, Princeton Review named SSU among its top 377 colleges in the nation. With approximately 4,100 total colleges in the US, that's incredible!

3. Class Size.

According to the SSU website, more than 80% of classrooms hold fewer than 50 students. This ensures the possibility for a student/professor relationship and the ability for individual help to be given when needed.

4. Rec Events.

The school offers many events including movie nights and shopping trips to San Francisco at little to no cost to students. They're a fun way to get off campus for students who don't have their cars. They also host barbecues and other fun activities to get everyone together. This year, there was even a trip to the Jelly Belly Factory!

5. Location.

There's no place like Sonoma (Or Rohnert Park, that is)! Although Sonoma State isn't actually IN Sonoma, you're still surrounded by trees and mountains that give the school a nice green hue. You're also about an hour away from the city which is always a great day trip! The campus itself also features a scenic lake filled with ducks and fish as well as lush grass and vibrant flowers.

6. The Dorms.

If you've never seen the dorms here, LOOK THEM UP! With the nicest dorms in the CSU System, SSU students are spoiled beyond belief. The Sophomore dorms (Tuscany and Beaujolais) will probably be nicer than any apartment I will ever own. They even have heated floors!

7. The People.

Everyone is always super welcoming, it's almost impossible not to make friends. When you live on such a small campus, one of your friends is bound to know the people you don't. You can walk up to anyone on campus and they will put on a friendly face.

8. The Resources.

SSU supplies an abundance of resources to ensure your academic success. They have a 3 story library filled with all kinds of gadgets, even record players. The bookstore has everything you need for school right on campus, including notebooks, printers, pencils, and spirit wear. You don't even need to leave campus to get your books. There's a location to print your papers as well as a tutoring center to help you with those last few tricky math problems.

9. The Professors.

All the professors at SSU are extremely outgoing. They all have office hours available where you can get extra help, some even offer help via teacher aide to maximize success. They are all super approachable and friendly, many of them even take the time to learn your first and last name.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
