With Love, From A Homesick College Student

The little things all college students miss while being away from home.

With Love, From A Homesick College Student

Being at college has taught me many things, like doing my own laundry, sharing a space with a roommate, managing my time wisely and getting involved. While college has been a lot of fun, I miss home. Every college student can relate to the longing of some familiarity by going home for school breaks. Here are the things I miss the most while being here at college:

1. My Home

I think everyone can agree the best place to be is home. There’s something about coming home after a long day, walking into your own room and falling into the comfort of your bed that makes everything better. Being able to do laundry in your actual laundry room and not having to worry about when you have to take it out is pure bliss. Sitting in “your spot” on the sofa watching endless hours of gossip girl in your PJs couldn’t get any better. The familiarity of home always being there is what makes home, home.

2. My Friends

All of my good friends went to different colleges all over. While I’m making new friends here at college, I can’t help but reminisce about all of the sleepovers, late nights laughs and the many late night food runs together. I see all that you’re doing on social media and can’t help but wish I was there doing it with you too.

3. My Church

For me, my church was where I spent most of my time. Not being there and being involved like usual makes me long for the many Sundays of participating in the children’s ministry. Being able to sit there and have certain children that would recognize me come up and give me big hugs would make my weekend. I miss that feeling of seeing all the familiar, loving faces I’d see on a weekly basis.

4. My Best Friend

Words can’t explain how much I wish you here with me. You’re my person and being away from my person is a lot harder than I thought. We’ve been through it all, we’ve gone halfway across the world together and sharing many moments together is what I miss the most. There have been many times I missed your funny laugh, your kind spirit, and your upbeat energy. A phone call just isn’t the same, I wish you could be experiencing college with me.

5. My Family

Feeling disconnected isn’t a good enough way to put it. I miss you guys more than anything. I count down the days of being able to see you all. Little sis, I see all that you’re accomplishing and I couldn’t be a prouder big sister. Mom and Dad, phone calls with you make me tear up every time, you’re loving advice keeps me going and makes me strive to do better in all I participate in. I wouldn’t be able to do this without you all. You guys are still and will forever be my rock even though I’m no longer at home. Love you guys to pieces and I can't wait to see you all my next trip home.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
