As a child I would always hear people say, "Wisdom comes with age" or "With age comes wisdom." When someone would say that I would just roll my eyes, but, as I've gotten older, I have started to appreciate that phrase and understand how true it is. I still have a lot to learn as I get older, but here are some things I've learned in my short life.
1. Lying Gets You Nowhere
It's true. If you lie, you are just going to have to lie again to cover your tracks. One lie just leads to another and eventually they are so piled up that you probably won't even know what the truth is. Honesty really is the best policy.
2. Naps Are A Great Thing
When I was younger I never really took naps. It's not like I refused to take naps; I just didn't really need them. However, when I went to college I learned that naps are a great thing. Trying to juggle college, work, and a social life can be exhausting and our bodies definitely need the extra rest whenever possible. If you can pencil in a nap every now and then, I would definitely suggest doing so. Also, Sunday afternoons are the best thing ever.
3. Go To Class
Trust me, I know how tempting it can be to skip class if you're tired or just don't want to go sit through a boring lecture. I've been there and done that, but going to class really is beneficial. I know you've heard that time and time again, but it's the truth. Think about it: is an hour or hour and a half really that long? Next time you're thinking about skipping class, just go. You and your grades will thank me later.
4. Your Parents Do Know What They're Talking About
Like I said, wisdom comes with age. Your parents have been through the same things that you are going through now and they have learned some important life lessons. They just want to share their knowledge with you and help you. Take the time to listen to them instead of just blowing them off. They love you and want what's best for you.
5. Life Is Short And Every Day Is a Gift
I've always known this, but I didn't start to really realize it until recently. In the last year and a half I have had two of my best friends pass away. It's been the hardest year of my life, but it's also been incredibly eye opening. Every day that we have on this earth is a gift and we should cherish it. Tell your friends and family that you love them and live every day like it's your last. Cliché, I know, but it's the truth.
