I Wish I Vlogged My Life

Its been said, "A picture is worth a thousand words." As much as I cherish the pictures I have, and memories that accompany them, I wish my memories could stream as video. I wish I vlogged my life.

Vlogs, or video blogs, are ever popular today. On YouTube, you can find over 80 million videos. Of those 80 million videos, I find myself watching vlogs. Many popular YouTubers upload weekly or even daily video blogs of their lives. Basically, they carry a camera with them every step of their day, filming interactions, events, or even speaking to viewers directly. The video clips are edited into a chronological, viewer friendly YouTube video as vlog.

As much as I enjoy watching these videos, indulging and living vicariously through the videos, I wish I vlogged my own life. I have been very fortunate to have experienced some amazing trips and events in my 19 years of life. Even my day to day life with my family and friends is exciting. I cherish the people I get to be around and truly enjoy time with one another. Sometimes our time is documented by photos or a quick video of a hysterical moment, but you can never really relive those special moments.

I wish I had a video for every great time. The first time I held my baby brothers. My family and me, standing together in our driveway, as we watched our house be knocked down. My brothers and my first baseball and softball games. The time my brothers and I swam in a cave used for filming Pirates of the Caribbean. The time I climbed a waterfall with my big brother. My family and me at the final game at the old Yankee Stadium. My Sweet 16. My journey out to Minnesota for high school. My trip to Norway visiting some friends. I wish these, and so many more moments were captured.

My last two years of high school were captured quite well with videos I watch nearly every week. I love being able to relive memories. A day captured with video clips set to music is a great way to relive those favorite memories. I wish those videos were captured daily.

Technology is expanding daily and while I cherish living in the moment and taking time away from technology, I would love the opportunity to relive my best and favorite memories. I especially love to watch other people's vlogs and while I might be the only one to ever watch the vlogs of my own life, I think it would be worth it. To be able to look back when I'm older and relive the fading memories would be indefinitely valuable to me. I wish I vlogged my life. I may just have to start.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
