Is it just me or does anyone else kind of wish their life was like a cartoon? I can probably think of five or six different cartoons that seem like a lot more fun than real life. Growing up, I know I use to watch cartoons and imagine what it would be like to be a part of them. To this day, I still watch those same cartoons and think sure, let’s live in a pineapple under the sea or in a house full of imaginary friends. I’d also love to have Fairy Godparents who can make a giant French fry appear out of nowhere or take a secret elevator behind a bookcase down to my lab underground. I don’t think there is a single person who could say that that wouldn’t be the greatest thing in the entire world.
Imagine being a part of “Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends” and waking up in the morning, going to school, and then coming to this huge mansion full of little kids imaginary friends that have actually come to life. Even just being able to have your own imaginary friend that is real (I’m sure that sounds kind of lonely and pathetic but we all know it’d be the coolest thing to ever happen and no one can deny it). Or how about living in a world where adults are villains committing crimes like making them do their homework or flossing and the kids fight them off with guns that shoot melted cheese or ice cream. I always wanted to be in “Codename: Kids Next Door.” I don’t know about you, but I think living in a giant high-tech tree house definitely trumps real life.
Even though I really wish I could actually live in a cartoon, at least I was able to spend my childhood watching the weirdest, most amazing television shows ever. The cartoons nowadays don’t even compare to the ones I used to watch as a kid. When I turn on the TV now, it makes me sad to see what kids have to work with. Maybe its just a generational thing and kids today actually do love the shows they have to watch, but I stand by my belief that ours were better. They just can’t compete with some of my favorites: Dexter’s Laboratory, Hey Arnold, The Wild Thornberrys, Danny Phantom, Avatar, Jimmy Neutron, Spongebob Squarepants, Codename: Kids Next Door, Fosters Home For Imaginary Friends, Mighty Bee, Batman Beyond, Courage the Cowardly Dog (that one was actually a little messed up and is a quite disturbing now that I watch it as an adult, but still pretty great).
All of those cartoons were so great for me as a kid because they are really what shaped my creative imagination. And I personally think that life is just simply not good enough if you can’t stay in touch with your childish imagination. It is what brings light to a dark situation and it is what helps me through stressful times. Having an imagination is what makes us human. Without it, we do not live, we simply exist.
