Every single person, no matter what age, race, gender, religion, has the same amount of time in a day. We all have 24 hours and yet, we all want more. I can't count the amount of times that I have wished that I had more time. Whether it be to cram for an exam or to cherish moments with the ones I love -- I always want more.
Unfortunately, we cannot create more time.
But we can choose who gets our time. There will be some days that you have to spend five hours in the library because homework is overwhelming. There will be times when you'll sleep for 12 hours because your body just can't function without it.
With all the stress of school and work, there comes the realization that you have to sometimes re-prioritize your life. I'm not saying to blow off your responsibilities to hang out with friends. I'm just giving the reminder that the friends you meet in college won't always be there once you step off that stage. People relocate for school, jobs, and family. You can't control what happens in the future -- but you can control what happens now.
Make plans with the friend who is moving after graduation, which is in three weeks. Invite your high school best friend, that you "never have time" to see, out for dinner. We can't create more hours of the day, but we can fill those hours with the people who matter most.
Relationships, whether romantic or just friendships, thrive on effort. Instead of using the excuse that you don't have any time, make it work. Put effort into the ones that you care about. Don't just tell them that you wish you guys could hang out, because that isn't endearing and it's a bad excuse.
I don't always make the best use of my time, I'll admit it. I lay in bed on Twitter for two hours at night and then complain the next morning how tired I am. Only, I have nobody to blame but myself. Time is only an illusion, but unfortunately that illusion, is what makes the world go 'round.
We can't stop time or slow it down but we can keep up with it. Prioritize the 24 hours you have to include the people you love. Because something harder than trying to create more time is trying to prove to the forgotten friend that you really did care.
