Tis the season! The holidays are coming right around the corner but with that, the biting cold will be trailing behind it. You’re probably wondering what are the different ways of staying warm, but also looking trendy. Also, you’re probably wondering: should you go all out for that holiday party you have at work? What about the holiday dinner with your family? And on’t forget about that New Year’s bash you were invited to. Minus finals week, the month of December is the most stressful time of the year and your holiday outfits are probably the last thing on your mind. To give you guys a little inspiration, here are some top trends that will get your brain’s juice flowing for this season.
Plaid, on Plaid, on Plaid
Ah yes, the wonderful pattern that was once only considered suitable for picnic table clothes are now one of the most popular trends around the holiday seasons. Whether you incorporate it in your dress, shirt, or suit: you’ll always get a gold star for showing up in plaid at a holiday dinner or party.
Although some may say the pattern is a little too tacky, it is actually quite classic and will never get old. For those that aren’t really familiar with plaids, there are multiple different types of plaids. I know what you’re thinking: how can plaid have multiple different types? They’re just vertical and horizontal lines in different colors. But for those plaid fans out there, you can spice up your holiday outfits or winter wardrobe with all the different plaids and their family members. Pairing a plaid dress of your choice with your favorite heels or riding boots could do the trick for this holiday season. However, adding a plaid scarf to your simple holiday dress could make your whole outfit too.
Ankle Boots
A huge hit from last fall and still going strong, ankle boots could still be on your winter wish list for those that are not located in regions with little snow. As a firm believer of riding boots, I traded mine in for these this season for a slight change and pairing them with a nice dress and tights would look great for the holiday parties.
Ponchos
Ponchos are back in the game and it’s been one of the hottest trends this fall. To transition into the more colder weathers, try turtleneck ponchos or layer a chunky sweater underneath. It’s basically a giant soft blanket that drapes over your shoulders all day long and comes in a variety of colors and patterns. You could rock this trend at a more lay back holiday party or dinner with some nice lace up flats or boots and black pants. Who would want to say no to wearing a blanket in public?
Turtlenecks
Thick sweaters are always trending, but this winter chunky turtlenecks have overpowered. You’ll see a lot of popular fashion bloggers wearing these with jeans and ankle boots. Turtlenecks are so versatile, whether it’s pairing it with your favorite jacket or layering it with other shirts underneath. Some take turtlenecks as tacky, but if you minimize the color scheme, it’ll look pretty put together. For the holidays, you could try a simple turtleneck with a gold skirt or pants. Also, it’s a shirt with a built in scarf, so you won’t have to decide on another clothing item and it helps you fight off the cold wind.
Faux Fur Vest
You either will love or hate faux fur vests. It’s been seen on the runway to the streets and comes in so many different patterns and colors. The furry, friendly statement piece can glam up your simplest outfit instantly. You could wear one with your simple holiday dress but there's nothing wrong with pairing a nice solid color blouse, skinny jeans, and some ankle boots with it to keep warm too.
Over The Knee Boots
If ankle boots doesn’t seem that appealing to you, then try over the knee boots. It may sound daunting to try, but it’s a great way to make a statement. Over the knee boots are more sleek, make your legs look longer, and looks amazing with skirts. It’s also a great piece to make your outfit more dressed up without even trying for your holiday parties.
Sequin
The classic statement that is always trending for the holiday season, especially with New Year's right around the corner. Incorporating sequin in your outfits for this year will really catch everyone’s eyes. Whether it’s sequin shorts with tights, skirts, or dresses, you can never go wrong with a little sparkle.
Little Red Dress
Nothing screams more “holiday festive” than the classic red dress for this holiday. Trade in your black dresses and try more bold colors this winter for formal events. Red and different shades of green will be the hit colors, but there’s nothing wrong trying other different colors too.
