Winter In Ohio: As Told by The Grinch

Winter is upon us again. For those in the Buckeye State, that means constant cold, snow, and/or boredom. While some people may love Jack Frost nipping at their nose, many do not. I mean let's face it; winter is the absolute worst. This time of year can bring out the Grinch in even the most optimistic Ohioan's. Here's how the Grinch would describe winter in Ohio.

Leaving the house is almost painful.

Every time you try to leave the house, you regret it. Something always seems to go wrong when you venture out into the cold. So why not just stay at home? I mean who needs social interaction, right?

Finding clothes to wear is always a hassle.

You have to find clothing that is both cute and practical. Scarves, boots, and a winter coat will become your best friends during the winter months in Ohio. You also have to dress in layers. While it may be negative 10 degrees outside, you will sweat profusely if you go into any building. Picking out the perfect outfit can take forever, and will make you utter the phrase "I'm not going," at least once.

Some days it feels like you eat constantly.

Food becomes your best friend during the long winter months. There is just always so much to eat. After all, you can never eat too many Christmas cookies, including buckeyes! You can lose the few pounds you gain over these next few months in the spring.

How dare people actually ask you to make plans?

Why doesn't anyone understand that you have a very busy schedule? I mean lying in bed and watching Netflix is hard work. How could you possibly have time to go out with friends when you have 11 seasons of "Grey's Anatomy" to watch?

Being cold all the time becomes the norm.

The constant cold is enough to make anyone grumpy. It feels like you will never defrost after this time of year. I highly recommend buying an electric blanket. It will become your favorite thing in the world.

Driving in the snow can make anyone angry.

As soon as it starts snowing, no one seems to know how to drive. People either go too slow or too fast for the weather conditions. The roads can also be horrible in Ohio. All of these things can cause a little bit of road rage in just about anyone.

Just snow in general is horrendous.

Does anyone actually like snow? It's cold and never looks as pretty as you think it will. The snow gets real old after the first snowfall of the year. Especially because it seems to be never ending. In Ohio, there is constant snow for at least three months. Snow is the worst.

Constant Christmas music on every radio station gets annoying real quick.

The music starts the day after Thanksgiving and continues through Christmas. Every station you turn on seems to be playing "All I want for Christmas is you." Let's face it, the Christmas music gets real old, real quick.

There is never anything to do.

Long gone are the days of lying out in the sun and taking road trips to the lake. They are replaced by long, cold days spent inside. Some days seem never ending and the boredom seems to be constant.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
