If you're anything like me, your winter break consisted of catching up with old friends, shamelessly watching shows on Netflix until four in the morning, and eating all of the home cooked meals you've been deprived of for the last several months. A month with no real responsibility, no classes or homework, and best of all: NO COMMUNAL BATHROOM!
Going back to school after all this time is pretty rough but here are some tips to help you get back into school mode:
1. Readjust Your Sleep Schedule
One of the best parts about winter break is not having to wake up for class. Unfortunately, going to bed really late isn't going to feel as fun when your 8 a.m. rolls around. Try to wake up as early as possible on the last days of vacation so hopefully when it's time for bed, you'll go right to sleep.
2. Have As Much of Your Favorite Food As Possible
One of the worst parts of going back to school is having to go back to eating dining hall food. While at home, eat all of the things you know you won't really be able to at school!
3. "TREAT YO SELF"
As a huge "Parks and Recreation" fan, I often hear the words "treat yo self" in Aziz Ansari's voice in the back of my mind. Most of the time if you look good, you'll feel good -- so why not buy some new clothes and accessories to help you stunt during the spring semester?
4. Take Time to Relax
A major key to living in a dorm is to wear shoes in the shower. It's weird being grossed out by a place where you get clean, but unfortunately that's just the way it is. A great part about being at home is having a nice, clean bathroom where you don't have to worry about what mysterious gunk is on the wall. Before returning to school, why not indulge in a little relaxation? Especially in the cold, a warm bubble bath can help you clear your thoughts and feel more zen.
5. Say Your Goodbyes
Being home means reuniting with friends and family that you haven't seen in what feels like forever. Before leaving for school, make sure you've spent time with the people (and pets) you've really wanted to see while away at school. Unfortunately, your friends and family can't all come back to school with you so make sure you give everyone a big hug and say your goodbyes!
6. Get Excited
Get excited to see all of your friends from school and the opportunities ahead of you! College is supposed to be the best years of one's life. I hope everyone has a great semester!
