8 Winter Break Blues You Get From Living In FoCo

This winter break I will be spending most of my time in Fort Collins because of work. I have to make some money to pay for my apartment and bills. See article Adulting: What It Is Like Living In An Apartment. I have never lived in Fort Collins during the holiday break, so this is how the break has gone. Which I suppose is not much different than being home.

1. Cold

Well obviously it's cold because it's Colorado. But something about Fort Collins makes it worse than other places. Many days have been spent below freezing, and my tiny little apartment has been hard to keep warm. Plus my truck has not enjoyed living outside and yells in protest when I start it.

2. Windy

The wind makes it even colder than it actually is. Your face feels dry and you can feel everything freezing inside your nose. The only conclusion I have about why we get so much wind is because Wyoming blows and Boulder sucks.

3. Snow

You either have no snow, or in a few hours have a holy crap ton. Fort Collins does not get as much snow as the mountains, but it still gets more than other places in Colorado. It may be cold as balls, but at least it is a pretty sight. Plus it must be a perfect home for some annoying guests (see below).

4. Geese

Geese are the annoying guests we have to deal with every winter. There are so many. They are EVERYWHERE and they poop EVERYWHERE too. There have been a few times that I have almost ran one over because it thinks it owns the road. Go back to Canada!

5. No friends

All of my friends went home for break so that leaves lots of time for me to spend alone. I miss them, and wish I had someone to hang out with.

6. Work

Since I do have so much time on my hands I have plenty of time to work. On the bright side, at least I am making money. I do need that money to pay bills, buy food and Christmas gifts.

7. Netflix

When I'm not working I am watching Netflix. Binge watching season after season. Or having Harry Potter movie marathons with one single friend who lives 45 minutes away.

8. Cooking

With my remaining time I have enough time to cook good meals for myself, where as my friends are all enjoying home cooked meals. However, even though I have the time, does not mean I actually use it to cook. I will more than likely will just grab that microwavable Mac and Cheese.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
