Finals are finally over! It’s the biggest relief of the semester. Now, you can exhale and forget about all the stress and pressure of your classes, clubs, sports, and other time-consuming activities. No more holding your breath, counting the days, assignments, and exams until it’s all over. Right now is the best part of it all because all of break is still ahead of us. The important thing now is to truly make the most of it.
Time to Catch Up
Winter break is the time to recover from the semester, and spend quality time with family and friends, and it’s also our longest break since the summer and marks the first time since August to truly catch up with all the people we’ve been missing. Unlike the short weeklong winter break of high school, college break is one whole month dedicated to unwinding, and focusing on the things you haven’t had time to do throughout the semester.
A Month of Freedom
Since it’s only a month compared to the three months of summer break, you don’t have to worry about getting a new job or internship. Instead, you can finally focus on all the things you love to do. Snuggling with your pets, sleeping in your own bed, and eating home cooked meals are just some of the few highlights that comes with going home.
No More Stress
It’s the greatest feeling to not feel obligated to be anywhere or do anything. It honestly still feels surreal that the classes we’ve been diligently working on all semester are done, and never again will we have to work on them. The notes, power points, and books that meant so much last week mean nothing this week, and that is an incredible feeling.
Focus on Yourself
Winter break is the time to focus on you. The semester is all about doing things for your classes, and impressing your professors, coaches, and advisors. Break is designed for you to be a little selfish and take the time to really reward yourself for all your hard work. Catching up on TV shows, celebrating the holidays with siblings and cousins, seeing old friends, and going out to favorite restaurants are no longer distant incentives getting us through finals. They are finally here.
Cherish Each Day
However, the one thing we can’t control about break is how fast it flies by. Even though this is inevitable, it is still remarkable to think how quickly these next few weeks will go in comparison to how slow one school week passes by. So my advice as you begin this relaxing break from all your previous responsibilities is to really enjoy every single day and try to do something to make each day worthwhile.
Happy Break!
Spend days just lounging around and baking holiday cookies, or around the fireplace with family. Without any responsibilities, it can become easy to fall into a routine where the days just blur together. But break will feel longer if each day is meaningful, and cherished. Enjoy and savor every second of this long-anticipated break. You deserve it!
