10 Accomplishments I Plan On Achieving This Winter Break

Because if I don't set goals for myself I'll waste time and regret it come next semester.

10 Accomplishments I Plan On Achieving This Winter Break

It's true, I'm an absolute wreck when it comes to following through with activities that involve myself. Procrastination is the name of the game and I'm the champion, but not this time! I'm determined to accomplish these few things to better myself and ward off the boredom that will undoubtedly set in now that I'm not stressing over schoolwork.

1. Drinking More Water

Giphy

This seems like an extremely easy goal, but for someone who doesn't reach for water as my go-to drink, it may be a bit hard at first. You're supposed to drink eight glasses of water a day. Assuming each glass is only eight ounces, that's 64 ounces every day!

Frankly, I'm lucky if I drink sixteen. Adding fruit to water has helped me in the past, it gives a nice flavor depending on the fruit added, and you're also getting nutrients from the fruit, which I also don't eat enough of, so it's a win-win.

2. Exercising Regularly

Giphy

No, no, I won't be lifting weights, but I will be walking a mile on the treadmill as often as possible. This past summer I was doing really well up until the end of July when I just stopped. I had felt so good while doing it, and for a bit after, I still felt good.

However, as of these past couple weeks, I've been so disgusted with myself. I want to get back to feeling positive about my body, and this is one of many steps in doing that.

3. Continuing My Short Story Collection

Giphy

This semester I had an idea for a fantasy short story collection. After receiving some amazing feedback on two stories I want to include in this collection, I can't wait to brainstorm more ideas and continue expanding on these characters.

4. Finishing The Book I Started Last Summer

Giphy

If I remember correctly, I've only gotten through two chapters of "Shadow of Night" by Deborah Harkness. Since starting my sophomore year, I haven't had the time to read for fun which sucks given how much I loved her first book.

5. Getting Paid For My Writing

Giphy

I've found a couple of websites that pay you a certain amount either per word or article. I'm hoping to submit to these websites at least once a week, and if I get accepted, I'll use what I earn to start paying off my student loans.

6. Catching Up On My Shows

Giphy

Okay, so this isn't "getting my life together" goals, but I've been dying to watch the new season of "Daredevil" and "The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina" because I loved, and still love, the original show. I also can't wait to see the new season of "Marvel's Runaways" on Hulu when it comes out later this month.

7. Spending Time With Friends

Giphy

I haven't been able to see my best friend in MONTHS and it's killing me with how much I miss her! Between both of our schedules with school and work, we've haven't been able to hang out. I didn't even get to give her the birthday present I got her, and her birthday was in November!

8. Cleaning Out My Closet

Giphy

I've already filled one garbage bag full with clothing that I hadn't touched in years or pieces that didn't fit; however, that wasn't even a full-on closet purge. I need an entire day to organize from top to bottom, deciding which pieces to toss and which ones to donate.

9. Cooking A Weekly Meal

Giphy

I have so many recipes saved on Facebook and Instagram and pinned on Pinterest, and I haven't made ANY of them. So Between breakfast meals and dinner recipes, I really want to try some like Buffalo Chicken Pasta and Hashbrown Breakfast Bake.

10. Not Wasting My Break

Giphy

While I definitely won't be throwing or going to big parties during break, I don't want to waste it being lazy for five consecutive weeks. Don't get me wrong, I will have days where all day pajamas are necessary, but I refuse to be like that every day. This is my accountability list; I've officially set goals for myself and now that they're out there I'll have more motivation to accomplish them.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Challah vs. Easter Bread: A Delicious Dilemma

Is there really such a difference in Challah bread or Easter Bread?

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.
