Windows 10 is slated to launch Wednesday, July 29. Whether you are a Mac enthusiast, loyalist, or just afraid to make the switch, the Xbox app is providing reasons to make the transition worthwhile; take a look at how the Xbox app will work on Windows 10 and how the Windows 10 app will work on the Xbox One and speculate on the cool possibilities these features could mean in the future. But what's already been confirmed is amazing enough.
First up: Xbox Live and multi-player across devices. If you want to talk about a serious epidemic among gamers, it's a severe case of dissociative identity disorder. Gamers that play on PC and Xbox have to deal with switching between profiles, and that means achievements earned are split under multiple aliases. Now, Xbox and PC achievements will be combined under one profile, boosting gamers' gamerscore and confidence. But here's the fun bit: cross-platform gaming is now a reality! Back in March, Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, promoted this feature while playing Fable Legends on Xbox One cooperatively with Lauren Carter, from Lionhead Studios, who was playing on PC.
My guess is that in the very near future, we will also have games that promote an online war of console dominance. Who's better at FPS games, Xbox One or PC players?
Second: The streaming feature will allow players to stream to their PC or Windows tablet from their Xbox One from anywhere in their home. By going into the Xbox app, gamers can not only start a game remotely, but turn the console on or off from anywhere in the vicinity. This feature is perfect for the gamer working in the home office who needs a short break -- or the gamer that sits on the throne for an unusually long time. Either way, if you have Windows tablet, PC, or laptop, you'll never be without your games.
It's also been confirmed at this year's E3 that Fallout 4 mods will be transferable from PCs to Xbox One consoles. Considering Microsoft recently acquired the hulking entity that is MineCraft, gamers can only hope that they will be able to do the same in the beloved sandbox adventure game. Alternatively, there is a possibility that gamers on steam will soon be able to stream from PC to Xbox One. The capability is already there, and Phil Spencer made us well aware of that fact.
These are just a couple of the current features and possibilities on the horizon. Whether the conjectures here come to fruition or not, there is already enough to get excited for in the months ahead.
