A Win For The Supreme Court And A Win For Women

Abortion is legal, completely legal, and the Supreme Court agrees.

A Win For The Supreme Court And A Win For Women

Some of the stories I hear about women trying to access abortion centers are appalling. Young victims of sexual assault who are forced to travel thousands of miles, then pay thousands of dollars just so that they can get a procedure done that is still completely legal. Then, to hear that doctors are told to tell women inaccurate information about the procedure. Women have the right to accurate medical advice about a procedure, and should not be forced to travel to extremes to get this performed.

The Supreme Court this week ruled against the laws set up in Texas to regulate abortions. Basically Roe vs. Wade is no longer the most important ruling when it comes to abortion; it is Planned Parenthood vs. Casey, which made it legal to place restrictions on abortions as long as it did not cause a burden on women. T.R.A.P. laws (Targeted Regulation of Abortion Providers) are regulations designed to help women and make abortions safer. Specifically, the laws in Texas or HB-2 required that all abortion clinics meet the same building standards as outpatient surgical centers and that the doctors have hospital admitting privileges. This meant that a great number of abortion clinics were shut down, and that now many women had no access to safe abortions.

Abortion is a legal procedure, and I am sorry to all of you who do not believe in abortion but that is the truth. Now, while abortion is legal there are many women who have no access to have one safely performed. There are women who have been sexually assaulted, or might die if the pregnancy comes to term, and these laws are forcing them into either paying thousands of dollars to get to a clinic that perform abortions or to let the pregnancy come to term and have a child.

This choice is something that no women should ever have to make. Abortion should not just be "sort of legal" it should be fully legal. These T.R.A.P laws are just another way of inhibiting abortion, which is illegal. Personally, I believe that every woman should have the right to choose what she wants to do with her body. I feel that I do not have the right to force a woman to do something that she doesn't want to.

This ruling by the Supreme Court will hopefully deter all other laws like this one. Every woman has the right to proper health care, and these women's centers provide that. I applaud the Supreme Court for stopping people from giving women the right to choose for themselves what is right for them and their bodies.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.

Ever since I could remember, it was a treat to receive Easter Bread made by my grandmother. We would only have it once a year and the wait was excruciating. Now that my grandmother has gotten older, she has stopped baking a lot of her recipes that require a lot of hand usage--her traditional Italian baking means no machines. So for the past few years, I have missed enjoying my Easter Bread.

Top 10 Reasons My School Rocks!

Why I Chose a Small School Over a Big University.

I was asked so many times why I wanted to go to a small school when a big university is so much better. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure a big university is great but I absolutely love going to a small school. I know that I miss out on big sporting events and having people actually know where it is. I can't even count how many times I've been asked where it is and I know they won't know so I just say "somewhere in the middle of Wisconsin." But, I get to know most people at my school and I know my professors very well. Not to mention, being able to walk to the other side of campus in 5 minutes at a casual walking pace. I am so happy I made the decision to go to school where I did. I love my school and these are just a few reasons why.
