I Will Never Take Another Class Online

Honestly online classes are the worst.

I Will Never Take Another Class Online

This past August I began my fourth semester at community college and I would say I'm a fairly good student. I've done very well throughout my semesters in college, though my third semester was a different story. Last spring semester I took three of my classes completely online, and after that semester I have vowed to never take another class online for the rest of my academic career.

When I first decided to sign up for classes online I was extremely naive about what they really entailed. I signed up for classes online mainly because I had waited so long to sign up for classes in general and I was having trouble finding anything to fit my schedule. I took these classes with the idea that they would be convenient, and for who knows what reason I also thought they would be easier. I have never been more wrong.

Online classes certainly are no where near easy, and (depending on your professor) not very convenient. With a Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and sometimes even Friday deadline each week, it became extremely difficult to keep up. It was far from convenient when I had to access the class online more often than I would go to a class on campus. Not to mention when you have a deadline you need to meet, and technical difficulties come your way.

My biggest problem with taking a class online is the lack of communication and sociable settings. It's difficult to feel motivated to do your best when you're sitting on a computer all day, while on the couch in your PJ's. When you're taking a class online and required to answer questions four students have asked, and then ask your own after reading some material, it makes it extremely difficult to bounce ideas off of fresh and different perspectives. There's no personal feeling to the class and the material being learned.

These classes are also incredibly difficult because to an extent it's almost as if you're teaching yourself the material. There is no meeting time to sit down and dive into the material, no time to analyze the information and ask questions.

Online classes are so much more difficult than taking a class on campus, and I would never say that staying in bed is worth the trouble that an online class can give you. Classes through the computer may actually work for some people but they are definitly not for everyone, and I will never take one again.

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
