If you’re like me, then you require large amounts of coffee to function on a daily basis. Getting through 8 a.m.'s without caffeine feels like the hardest thing ever. Fortunately, I have the smiling faces of the WPI Dunkin Donuts ladies to look forward to everyday.
My daily routine through the line at WPI’s Dunkin Donuts goes a little like this:
1. First, I enter the Campus Center with the anticipation that the line will take the form of a seemingly endless horseshoe of college students.
If you're a student at WPI, you know exactly what this looks like.
2. Even if I only have 10 minutes to spare before class, I always get in line.
A few thoughts strike me, usually starting with "I should really just head to class," or "do I even have enough money to pay for this?" These thoughts, however, are defeated immediately by more realistic, inevitable thoughts like: "...But I really need my Dunkin" and "The Dunkin ladies will miss me if I don’t show up today."
3. Once I arrive at the counter, I am awakened by a big smile from the cashier, Eva.
The lady next to her reaches for a large iced cup. They both know my face and my exact order. Is this sad? Probably.
I nod, shamefully, at the lady reaching for the cup. Again, I nod, shamefully, at Eva when she asks if I'll be having my usual bagel with cream cheese. One of these days I'll change my order...
4. I pay the usual price for my order and then await my bagel by the sandwich counter.
When the lady hands the bagel off to me, she always smiles and says something along the lines of “enjoy!” My usual reply is “Thanks, you too!” because I’m awkward and apparently don’t understand that she will not be sharing the bagel with me.
5. I leave the Campus Center well aware that I am going to be late to class.
When I enter the lecture hall, the professor usually glances at my coffee and makes strange eye contact with me. This eye contact is followed by a sigh. Why yes, Professor, I was late today because Dunkin is a priority in my life.
Anyway, throughout the entire process at the WPI Dunkin Donuts, I am provided with warm, welcoming smiles and an order made with genuine care. All of the employees work fast and efficiently, making the wait well worth it.
If this doesn’t prove to you that WPI’s Dunkin ladies are perfect, consider literally any other Dunkin Donuts restaurant you’ve ever been to.
Did the cashier look genuinely pleased by your presence? Probably not.
Was the accuracy of your order consistently on point? Probably not.
Did the cashier repeat your order in Albanian to her coworker? Probably not.
Did you leave the restaurant feeling better than when you walked in? Maybe, but only because you now have a source of caffeine to get you through the day.
You get my point...
Thank you to the Dunkin crew for making WPI a better place than it already is. Let's face it, the WPI Dunkin ladies are, indeed, perfect.
