Why You're Wrong To Hate Beyoncé

Honey Bee. Yoncé. Sasha Fierce. Bee. Moth. B.B. Homemaker. JuJu. Queen Bey. All of these are nicknames for the one and only Beyoncé Giselle Knowles-Carter. I've been in the BeyHive for a long time now, and nothing frustrates me more than having to defend my love of Beyoncé.

There are people who just don't like her music, which is completely understandable because everyone is entitled to their own opinion. However, there are some people who hate Beyoncé because she is "overrated" and claim that she "can't sing." Now, in addition to those statements being absolutely idiotic false, they are also exceptionally annoying for any Queen Bey fan to hear. Therefore, I'm going to lay out all of the reasons why you're wrong to hate Beyoncé.

1. She is constantly giving back to the community.

You might not know this, because she tries to keep her philanthropic efforts on the DL, but Beyoncé donated around $7 million dollars to a charity in Houston that provides shelter, food, counseling and healthcare to the homeless. Additionally, her and Kelly Rowland founded the Survivor Foundation which helped victims of hurricane Katrina by providing housing, support and education. She also has her charity, BeyGood, which has donated backpacks stuffed with school supplies to underfunded schools in NYC, Washington D.C, Philadelphia and Baltimore. The list goes on and on, but I think it's pretty clear that Beyoncé definitely gives back.

2. She is not afraid to say that she is a feminist.

She has always encouraged female empowerment through her music (i.e Independent Woman, Survivor, etc), but now she is completely unapologetic in standing up for what she believes in. In her song ***Flawless, she samples a TEDx Talk "We Should All Be Feminists" from author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, defining feminism for what it really is: the social, political, and economic equality between the sexes. Also, Beyoncé is a co-founder of Chime For Change, an organization that focuses on the empowerment of women and girls through education, health and justice. The organization has funded more than 400 projects to help women and girls in 86 countries through 144 non-profit partners.

3. Beyoncé's voice can put most other musical artists to shame.

I'm not saying she is the only musical artist to have a good voice, but I am saying that it is false for anyone to say that she can't sing. She's been singing for an incredibly long time, and her training and experience are definitely noticeable through her music. It's okay to not like her style of music, but you cannot deny her talent. You can listen to this video, this video or this video if you need proof.

4. She's woke.

This probably doesn't surprise many people, due to the release of her new single "Formation," which celebrates black history and culture. However, most people don't know that her and Jay Z have both donated 1.5 million dollars to Black Lives Matter and other social justice groups, and also had previously paid the bail of Black Lives Matter protestors who were arrested for attending anti-police brutality demonstrations. Also during her Superbowl Halftime Show performance, she paid tribute to The Black Panthers and dressed up to emulate Michael Jackson.

5. She's not afraid to show that she's a real person.

In her documentary Life Is But A Dream, she opens up about her personal life and and talks about hardships she has gone through, such as the rift with her father and the emotional turmoil of her miscarriage. As a world-renowned performer, it must be difficult to balance her personal and professional life, but she does it so well. Any family drama tends to be kept secret, but she's also okay with sharing other aspects of her life. For example, she is very open about her relationship with God, and how she keeps a video diary on her Macbook to help her figure out her life. Additionally, with the release of her self-titled album, she opens up about her marriage and its problems, her relationship with Blue and her sex life - giving us a deeper look into her experiences.

6. She is just an overall badass who does some really dope sh*t.

Yeah, this definitely could have been said in a more professional manner, but I really wanted to drive this point home with as much emphasis as possible. Not only is Beyoncé the most nominated woman in Grammy history and has a total of 20 Grammys, but she also completely manages herself and is the founder/CEO of her company.

And remember that time when she performed "Love On Top" (a song with 6 key changes) at the VMA's in five-inch heels while she was pregnant, and still managed to hit every single note? Yeah, that was pretty f****** amazing.

Or when she dropped a complete album with 17 music videos without anyone knowing, and sold 800,000+ copies in three days, making BEYONCÉ the fastest selling album in iTunes history?

Or when she blew everyone away at the Superbowl and her performance literally caused the power to go out?

There are so many more examples I could list on why you're wrong to hate Beyoncé, but if I continued this would no longer be an article, it would be a novel series. My main argument is this: it's OK to not like her style of music, as you're entitled to your own wrong opinion. However, you cannot say that she doesn't have talent. Beyoncé is an icon, and whether you like it or not, she is one of the most incredible performers of our generation.

So essentially: bow down bitches.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
