I'm a teenage girl, which naturally means I fight with my mom. A lot. It's just a thing teenage girls do.
But, now that I'm getting a bit older and a bit more mature, I'm starting to see all of these things mom said to me that are completely and totally, 100% right.
If there's anything I hate, it's admitting that I was wrong and someone else was right. Mom, though, she doesn't really have to admit she's wrong because most of the time- she's not.
Here are five things my mom has said that are just so right:
1. They're probably just jealous.
I used to hate this. Jealousy in my mind was no reason to hate someone- because I had a cool mom and she taught me to think that way- but not everyone has had such cool moms and more often than not I actually find that to be the reason one of my friends doesn't like another friend of mine.
2. Working hard isn't easy, but it's the only way to get what you want.
Thank goodness my parents made me and my siblings start working at a very young age. So many times nowadays I see people my age who have never had to have a real job- everything is just handed to them and they expect it to always be that way. Well, my mom and dad made sure we knew how to work. And that's the best skill I could've ever gotten from them.
3. Always let your kid do what they love.
I'm blessed. I'll say it a million times if you need me to because it's so true. I get a lot of support from my parents so that I can do what I love. Some people don't have that. Thank you, mom, for not pushing me to like something I don't actually like.
4. The truth hurts.
Mom's always been there to give me the cold, hard, truth. I never really take it well, we're still working on that, but she's helped to prepare me for what other people are going to say to me when I get out in the real world. Plus, she's the only one who will give me the whole truth. "No, Adrienne, that dress does not look good on you."
5. No one will ever love you more than me.
Really didn't want to be super cliche in this... oops? It's so true though.
So, kids everywhere — listen to your moms.
And moms everywhere — keep being right about things.
