Why Your Freshman Year Roommate Is The Best

Because she'll always be there for you, through thick and thin.

Why Your Freshman Year Roommate Is The Best
The Nine Ways of Knowing

Freshman year is a battle of you versus the unknown. How are you going to like your professors? How is the homework going to be? Will you make any friends? While all these questions spin around in your head, the one thing you know that you can rely on is your roommate.

1. She's there to dig you out of your pile of homework.

You roommate knows how much you work on your homework every night. She sees you slouching over your desk writing paper after paper, commenting on how much work you have to get done before the due date. She knows when you're going to need a break and will be more than happy to help you out because she probably needs a break from her work too.

2. She's always down for a movie night.

Whether it's a weekend night or the night before an 8 a.m., she's the one who will break out the popcorn, put a movie on and make a pillow fort with you.

3. She knows exactly how you feel when the neighbors won't shut up.

Whether they're running down the hallway or shrieking at the top of your lungs, some days you just want them to be quiet so you can sleep, or nap. You roomie knows this pain too, since she has to deal with it as well.

4. Although, sometimes you're the loud ones.

Because jammin' out to music at 3 a.m. can be pretty productive too.

5. Need a late night snack run?

She knows you like the back of her own hand at this point and will always be down for a late night snack (especially when finals are coming up), whether that means going to the school's convenience store or running to your local Rutters / Sheetz / Wawa.

6. You can always turn to her when you have boy problems.

She's there to support you when that jerk doesn't call you back or when you need to figure out how to send a text without seeming too clingy. Likewise, you'll always support her when she's going through her own boy trouble.

7. Even though she'll help you when you're overworking yourself, she'll also make sure you focus.

Roommate studying sessions are always a good idea, you'll keep each other motivated and off your phones (well, hopefully).

8. She knows exactly what you're thinking when you give her a look.

Living together for so long has made you both able to understand the other without even talking. Whether someone is being annoying you know you can give your roommate "that look" you're able to express exactly what you mean and she'll understand you.

9. She'll go through recruitment with you.

At most schools, Greek life is a big deal. Your freshman year is the usual time everyone goes out for recruitment. Your roommate will either stand by you and help you out as you figure out what to wear and how to do your hair; or she'll go through it with you, swapping stories and make-up tricks throughout the week.

10. You'll use your inside jokes like a secret language.

Whatever jokes you come up with in your dorm room, don't always stay in the dorm room. You'll start talking in your own secret language after awhile, using code names and inside jokes.

As you're packing up your room together for the end of the year, it's nice to think back and enjoy the times you two spent together. Even if you two don't live together again your sophomore year, you know you made an inseparable bond that won't fade anytime soon. She'll always be your person, because you two struggled through freshman year together, and survived.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
