One of the greatest moments when you first get into a sorority is Big/Little Reveal. The search process with finding a big that suits you best in every way is a hard one, but so rewarding in the end. Each day leading up to reveal I had already grown to love and adore the girl that would soon be my big. When the day came to be when I would finally receive my big I was terrified. No, I wasn’t scared or nervous of the day itself, but I was scared that I wouldn’t get the big I dreamed of having. Lucky me, I did. From that moment on, I realized that I had found my other half: the icing to my cake, my umbrella on my rainy day (and a million more of those cute sayings).
To others not affiliated with Greek Life, they wouldn’t understand the concept of how the Big and Little process works and why all of these sorority girls are so overly excited about it. If you look up the definition of ‘Big’ in the Merriam-Webster dictionary, one of the several definitions it will give you is that a Big is “of great importance or significance,” which is exactly what the Greek meaning also means. If you ask me, a Big is someone who shares the same qualities as you, someone you look up to and go to for guidance. A big is a mentor when you need her, who helps you with academics when you’re struggling, and ALWAYS a go-to person when you need someone to eat with. A big is more than the gifts you receive from her during clue week, because the real gift is the gift of her presence and joy she brings you when you’re together.
