If you're a college student you know exactly what I am talking about when I say "all nighter." If you're one of the lucky ones that has never had to experience the pain that is pulling an all nighter because you have your life together, I applaud you. If you're like me and pull all nighters regularly, then you probably know a thing or two about why staying up all night to finish homework, finish a project, or study for a test just isn't a good idea. Why are all nighters not the best idea? Well, even though at the moment they seem like your only option, and a good idea there are about 4 reasons why you shouldn't pull an all nighter.
1. You need your sleep
It's obvious that we all need our sleep. A lack of sleep doesn't just make you tired throughout the day, but it can effect your cognitive abilities and emotional state. Plus, it's pretty awkward when you fall asleep in class only to wake up to your professor making awkward eye contact with you.
2. Late night eating will get the best of you
Stress eating is a thing, and at 4 a.m when you're hitting a wall mid way through your all nighter you're going to need something to keep you up all night. Late night eating occasionally is probably harmless, but when all nighters become a regular thing those late night snacks will sneak up on you.
3. You never really get everything done
Yes, you may get one paper done and some studying, but what about the two other assignments you were suppose to get done? All nighters just aren't the best idea because your plan may be to finish all your assignments, but then you close your eyes for a few minutes and the next thing you know your alarm for class is going off.
4. Moodiness
Pulling all nighters means the next day is just not going to be your day. It's typical to hate everyone and everything the morning after an all nighter, but it's just another reason to avoid all nighters as much as you can.
Sometimes all nighters in college just are unavoidable, but as much as you can try to do all your studying and homework the night before it's much easier and your body and sleep schedule will thank you.
