Why You Shouldn't Have a Girlfriend as a Freshman Pledge

If you have a girlfriend as a freshman in college, you'll miss out on so many things that you will not be able to relive.

Here are the facts as to why you should NOT date a girl in your freshman year.

The population of women on college campuses far outweighs the population of men. AKA, girls will be competing over you. You'll be in charge of the relationship. You don’t need to settle down. There are plenty of women out there for you to meet and one of them has got to be perfect, so just wait.

In college, there's a lack of time and need for dating because “hooking up” is now a social norm. The amount of opportunities you will get to hook up with girls your freshman and sophomore year will seem endless. Live it up!

Also, you DO NOT want a girlfriend if you are pledging a Fraternity. Why? Because it's the best time you never want to relive. I had a 37 person pledge class, and there are only a select few I wouldn't call my best friend. Those guys were the ones with girlfriends. They just didn’t mix well into the Fraternity lifestyle.

When you are with your pledge bros, one of the main ways you will bond is by going out and getting girls with them. It's just something that every guy has in common. It gives you stories to tell, experience, more confidence. Don't hold yourself back, it's something you should be doing!

Through thick and thin, guys in your house are going to be there for you all of your life. Trust me, the bond you create is one you could only make by pledging. The stories and memories you make with your pledge brothers will be moments you will cherish forever. Nothing other than pledging could have gotten me closer to 30 other dudes. I still treasure the long nights where no one seemed to be tired on the Sleeping Porch, while I had an early test the next day. If I could go back for one semester, I would. I couldn’t name one experience that was better than being single my freshman year.

Bonding with your pledge bros takes your mind off the little things that don’t really matter and changes you completely. If you look at me, I went from being a little on the quieter side, to being outgoing, talkative and funny. If I had a girlfriend as a freshman, I wouldn't be the way I am now. I would be nowhere near as confident. I contemplate every day about how much the decision to rush has positively impacted my life, and I'm thankful for what I have. I'm happy I stayed single as a freshman because my Fraternity has given me way more than I could ever put back in.

Remember that you will have plenty of time to date a girl later in life. It will become time to get a girlfriend when you're a junior or a senior because by then, you would have already lived out your fun. Only then will it be time to start thinking about your future.

Sitting inside, watching Netflix with your girlfriend will only be fun for so long. DO NOT MISS THIS ONCE IN A LIFETIME OPPORTUNITY!

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
