There are days, many days, throughout our lives where our to-do list gets to be a mile long. We've taken on too many commitments, have a whirlwind of assignments and exams, our friends are texting us for relationship advice and we know we should work out after that second piece of cake in two hours. As these days go by, we wake up stressed, go to bed stressed and have multiple, "Oh my gosh!" moments throughout the week when we forget about yet another task we were supposed to do. It is overwhelming (and unhealthy) to live in a state of constant worry and concern about how little of time we have to do things. While we are striving to fulfill our potential in earthly matters, we easily forget to commit ourselves to God in the process.
In the midst of all of the responsibilities that the world brings us, we forget about our greatest responsibility... to grow our faith, trust in the Lord and ask for forgiveness and mercy.
We spend hours talking with our friends and family to relieve stress and anxiety about the troubles of the world, and although they are a great resource, they are not the greatest. We spend hours making plans to avoid future chaos, but do not take time out of our day to cast our cares on the one who already has hour future planned out for us. The anxiety levels of our generation are of the worst that this world has seen. We are under a lot of pressure to fulfill our potential and beat the competition in our education and career. However, worrying about tomorrow will not change tomorrow's circumstances, but praying about tomorrow and trusting in God's plan will put our mind at ease.
Instead of spending the hour a day worrying, planning and looking for solutions to our problems, take the time to talk to God about what His plan is for you. He may ask you to be still for a moment, and in that moment trust that He is doing more work than you ever could on your own. When we decide to be patient with the Lord and give our heart to Him completely, we will undeniably feel more at peace than we ever would by checking off one more item on our to-do list.
