Kanye West is one of the most controversial figures in the music industry because of the explicit content in his music and various outbursts at public events. He is the exact artist many parents don’t want their children to listen to, yet they do anyway because true fans see past the profanity and see the insightfulness behind his words. If you listen to the 10 minutes speeches at the MTV Video Music Awards in their entirety, or in between the explicit words in his music, you will hear those insightful ideas.
His main ideal is seeking honesty, which is essential for our generation since our growing society is becoming overly sensitive. Children are coddled and aren’t taught what the ‘real world’ is like, so parents are setting them up to be disappointed.
There is no doubt that Kanye loves his children; you can tell when they put a smile on his face (because he rarely smiles). He is very adamant about being a good father who prepares his children for the ‘real world.’ He says, “They’re going to be in the real world and they’re going to hear things and see things, and I think they will be prepared for them.” He is very protective of his children but not to an extent where he will let them be unaware of what happens in the ‘real world.'
I wish I had more of this growing up. I know that if I grew up with a little less coddling then I probably would’ve seen the corruption in the world before I started high school. It wasn’t until I was halfway through my freshman year that I actually found out what my ideals were, what I believed in, and what I thought was worth fighting for.
He isn’t passive aggressive. This is obvious; he is very open about what he believes in and very blunt when he speaks. He doesn’t speak from a script. He knows some of the biggest issues in the world and how to communicate them to people who may not watch the news. He fan base ranges between teenagers and people in their 20’s. This group of people is usually disregarded in politics because they are found immature and unreliable.
One of the things that bothers me when I convince people that Kanye West is only widely misunderstood is when they say they still don’t like them but don’t have any reasons to support their opinion. I think it returns to the idea parents convince children that Kanye is a bad person. This is something I grew up thinking because that is what my mother told me, and now I am proud to say that I defend Kanye against my mother.
Don’t get me wrong, Kanye isn’t perfect and could maybe use another artistic outlet rather than fashion and music, but I think the pros definitely outweigh the cons in Kanye’s situation.
