Why Kanye Needs A Reality Check

With such an influence in the media, you would think he would do something of value with it.

Why Kanye Needs A Reality Check

There is no debate regarding Kanye West as a very talented individual. He has won and been nominated for numerous Grammy Awards, Billboard Music Awards as well as various MTV awards. After his album, “Yeezus" was released, it is clear that he not only thinks highly of himself, but sees himself as a Messiah, taking narcissism to a whole new level.

When you are in the spotlight and all of your actions are publicized, you have to step up and be a role model. West is someone who is viewed by a range of ages and could be using his fame for a positive influence, but rather he is self-promoting himself and his distasteful behavior.

In 2009 at the MTV Video Music Awards, Taylor Swift accepted her award for Best Female Video and West grabbed the microphone from her proclaiming that Beyoncé should have won the award. He not only stole a monumental moment from Swift, but humiliated Beyoncé in the crowd.

He mocks religion in various songs such as “No Church in the Wild," “New God Flow," “I Am a God," and many more. His ego is bigger than any accomplishment he has actually achieved.

There are plenty of artists who are incredibly talented and humble. There are artists who use their fame to influence the world positively and make a difference. Artists such as Emma Watson and her “He for She" campaign, Angelina Jolie-Pitt supports many charities and organizations, and Ellen DeGeneres launched “Small Change Campaign" to feed America and she also supports various charities and foundations.

In an interview with NYC's radio station Power 105, West declared, “I'm like Michelangelo, and anyone who backs me is like the Medici family" according to Hyperallergic. He refers to himself as a Renaissance man – the men who changed the way we perceive things in the world. I don't think “Black Skinhead" or his rants have ever made anyone change the way they look at the world.

The people that used to be famous were the great intellectuals, and now the stars are hot-headed superstars such as Kanye West. Artist Michelangelo created Pieta and David sculptures as well as the Sistine Chapel paintings. These works of art are preserved so people can view the beauty for generations to come. The Sistine Chapel is of seven prophets and five females with scenes from Genesis in the Bible. West compares himself to an artist who created beauty that is appropriate for everyone and can be admired by everyone without offense. Notice that Michelangelo didn't paint a mural of himself on the Sistine Chapel ceiling, nor did he make a sculpture of himself declaring himself as a god.

Kanye West is an excellent rapper, fashion designer, and talent in general. His accomplishments are great and he has achieved many. However, it is essential that the people with this kind of power try to make a positive difference in the world because they have the capability. Young children hear his music, lyrics, and they sing along. Young boys will grow up singing the lyrics to these songs thinking they have to get rich, live fast, and die young in order to have a great life.

There is so much more to life and there is so much more West could do with his influence. Instead, he chooses to offend people, declare how great he is, and promote his wife's nudity in the media without thinking of the effects it will have on his daughter, North.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
