Why You Should Stop Slut-Shaming Kim Kardashian

1. It's her body, so it's her choice.

Kim Kardashian is a grown woman who is capable of making her own decisions. So, if she feels comfortable taking a naked selfie and posting it online for the entire world to see, we should be comfortable with it too. It's her choice and it really shouldn't affect your life at all.

2. It shames her sexuality.

News flash! Women like to have sex! Just as much as men do! Ohhhh the horror. Unfortunately, some people act a woman's value/virtue is based on whether or not she is a virgin or how modest she is. We need to make sure women feel secure and safe about expressing their sexuality.

3. Women being publicly nude isn't a "new trend."

Women have been portrayed nude in many famous artworks such as Francisco de Goya's "The Nude Maja" and Titian's "Venus of Urbino" shown below. So women being nude publicly isn't this new phenomenon… so calm down.

4. It implies that being nude can't be empowering.

Here's a line that I love: "The empowerment lies in the autonomy of choice." This means that different things can empower different people. Some people simply like being nude but don't want it to be misinterpreted as something sexual Just like how some women who wear hijabs or other types of coverings don't want that to be misinterpreted as oppression. At the end of the day, it's their choice and we have no right to dictate to women how they should dress and what should empower them.

5. If men can do it, why can't we?

Personally, I am so sick of the double standards. If being nude is fine for a man to do, why can't it be fine for a woman, too? If a man gets praised for doing it, why does a woman get shamed? Women shouldn't have to be responsible for upholding this pure modest image while men can practically do whatever they want. It is unfair and nudity should be acceptable for both men and women.

6. It sends a positive message to girls.

This photo, believe it or not, is teaching girls to be accepting of yourself and to choose how you want to be viewed. It's making girls realize that we are in total control of our bodies and how they are displayed. Ladies, we should be able to do whatever the hell we want, am I right?

For as long as I can remember, I have been listening to The Beatles. Every year, my mom would appropriately blast “Birthday” on anyone’s birthday. I knew all of the words to “Back In The U.S.S.R” by the time I was 5 (Even though I had no idea what or where the U.S.S.R was). I grew up with John, Paul, George, and Ringo instead Justin, JC, Joey, Chris and Lance (I had to google N*SYNC to remember their names). The highlight of my short life was Paul McCartney in concert twice. I’m not someone to “fangirl” but those days I fangirled hard. The music of The Beatles has gotten me through everything. Their songs have brought me more joy, peace, and comfort. I can listen to them in any situation and find what I need. Here are the best lyrics from The Beatles for every and any occasion.

Small towns certainly have their pros and cons. Many people who grow up in small towns find themselves counting the days until they get to escape their roots and plant new ones in bigger, "better" places. And that's fine. I'd be lying if I said I hadn't thought those same thoughts before too. We all have, but they say it's important to remember where you came from. When I think about where I come from, I can't help having an overwhelming feeling of gratitude for my roots. Being from a small town has taught me so many important lessons that I will carry with me for the rest of my life.

I can't say "thank you" enough to express how grateful I am for you coming into my life. You have made such a huge impact on my life. I would not be the person I am today without you and I know that you will keep inspiring me to become an even better version of myself.

Course registration at college can be a big hassle and is almost never talked about. Classes you want to take fill up before you get a chance to register. You might change your mind about a class you want to take and must struggle to find another class to fit in the same time period. You also have to make sure no classes clash by time. Like I said, it's a big hassle.

This semester, I was waitlisted for two classes. Most people in this situation, especially first years, freak out because they don't know what to do. Here is what you should do when this happens.
