Why You Should Stop Caring About Your Size

No one cares if you are a size zero.

Why You Should Stop Caring About Your Size

I fear that the American society cares way too much about their size. Both men and women worry about the size of their bodies, and not the size of their hearts. I see this most directly when I spend time with my extended family. They are constantly making comments about how they want to lose weight, don’t look like they used to, or basically never feel like they are enough for themselves or for other important people in their lives. It blatantly shows me that there is a difference in generations.

As a teen, of course I struggled with my size and I fought myself several times that I wanted to be smaller and thinner. As if being smaller would make me a better person, more desirable, the best of the bunch. And guess what? It didn’t.

I finally realized that size does not have an affect on what I do, who I am, or who I love. When I realized this, I was truly happy; happy with myself, happy with my body, and happy with life. I’d rather put my energy and my thoughts to something much more important and meaningful, rather than the insignificant insecurity that I have about being tiny. Because “tiny” is feminine, “tiny” is pretty, guys like “tiny” and a countless number of other stupid reasons.

I no longer walk into a store and strive to find size small. I no longer wish that I can buy a top that is a size small or medium. I say, bring on the large and extra large!

So what, I need more material. So what, my body “bounces” when I move. So what, you don’t like it.

That’s not what’s important. And that’s not what should be important to any of us.

Being a certain size shouldn’t be something that means so much to you, it is only going to hurt you in the end. Because we set these goals to be a certain size, we never feel good enough until we are that size. Even when we achieve the goal, we still aren’t happy. This means we keep going, we keep trying, we keep pushing.

This isn’t the way life should be for males or females. No one should feel like they aren’t enough in the size that they are. In fact, you should feel like more than enough.

Here are some things I think you should try, maybe once a day, or maybe once a week:

  • Look in the mirror and smile.
  • Turn negatives into positives, like “Look at those love handles! I’m sexy!”
  • Stop weighing yourself, numbers are not important.

I hope that you can realize that size does not matter!

Love yourself and keep smiling.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

The Importance Of Being A Good Person

An open letter to the good-hearted people.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
