My family and I took many road trips growing up, and I loved them. I was probably the most impatient child you have ever met; I wanted to be there as fast as we could, but of course that did not happen. What changed my life was road tripping with my best friend. After graduating, I went on my senior trip with my dad, aunt and my cousin to the beach. I got to drive my own car (this was my first big road trip in Tia, my car) with my favorite co-pilot, Christina. Many trips later she is still my favorite person to travel with.
This is us on our first road trip.
Same Music Taste
Being able to drive for hours on end and not argue about what genre, who to listen to, or arguing over what station to put it on. Having the same mutual taste in music helps the trip go by faster, and makes riding in a car for hours a lot easier. I happen to have a video of us singing "Let It Go" in five o'clock Dallas traffic, all of the other drivers also got the chance to hear us sing songs from all the Disney movies. The only part about having the same music taste is that we both have the same playlist, imagine that.
No Set Schedule
Being able to travel to your set location, but not having a certain time set to be there. We always seem to find ourselves going on mini adventures within our big adventure. I love being able to travel and being able to look over and say "How about we stop here?" and a very chipper "Okay!" comes out of her mouth. Many of my favorite memories have been made by going off the beaten path a little bit. Here's a little secret, sometimes we get lost and just laugh about it.
Amazing Talks
When you are trapped in a car for five plus hours with someone you get the opportunity to have heart to hearts that you would not normally get to have. Some of our best talks have been right there in the front seats of our cars. It was like therapy, and it was the best kind of therapy I could have ever had. All of the talks we had were so honest and raw, I would never take them back.
Here we are again, back at the same beach for her senior trip.
The Best Memories
I will never forget all of the endless hours we have spent in a car together, all of the laughs, all of the naps and all of the adventures that can never be replaced. Some of these trips were major growing up moments for the both of us. Some of these trips were the first time that we drove hours by ourselves without our parents, we even went on a nine-hour trip to Chattanooga, TN by ourselves and stayed without our parents. These trips slowly molded us into the young women we have become today. It showed us that is is okay for us to be independent and depend on one another. If only we could have a T.V. show that showed everyone what it is like to have us both in the car together.
So my advice to anyone guy or girl, get in the car and road trip with your best friend for the best part of your life.
To my Co-pilot,
Thanks for always getting in the car with me and not fearing for your life with my driving. Also, thanks for never questioning our destination when we decide to take an adventure.
