Why You Should NOT Move in with Your S.O.

6

OK, I know I will be called old fashioned for this, but I am serious. If you are thinking about moving in with your "significant other" DON'T DO IT!

I was with my, what was current, boyfriend at the time for almost two years, on and off for five years before we made it official. We, of course, had our ups and downs just like any other relationship. I was fresh out of high school, planning to go to college a couple of hours away from home. He and I had talked about getting our own place for months prior to actually doing it. I looked for places for months and months until I found the perfect place for both of us. It was a studio apartment, about 975 square feet. Perfect for two young people who don't have much for personal belongings.

I had gotten a job a few months before I officially moved out of my parent's house and into a small apartment with my, what I thought to be, "forever".

MIND YOU, I really didn't mention to my parents that I was moving in with a boy because they don't believe in the moving in before marriage thing.

I moved in about a month after he did, due to my graduating from high school and finishing up a few shifts at my place of work. And a few months after I moved, I finally told my parents... It did not go well.

Eventually, my parents came to terms with the news, and they began talking to me again.

Things were all fine and dandy after I moved in until he quit coming home. There were periods when he would just pop his head in to say "hi", give a kiss on the cheek, and leave to go to who knows where.

It was around Christmas time, I was supposed to go to his family Christmas. I was pretty much completely ready to walk out the door when I get a text saying, "Don't say anything stupid, I'm hungover." Many things ran through my mind right then and there, he and I made a promise to never drink without the other... unless home ALONE. So obviously, he broke a promise of ours... come to find out he was lying to me for an entire year.

Point for this entry is, you think you know someone...

Thank you for reading.. I just needed to do something to get all of this off of my chest.

The library. Club lib. The place every college student goes when they want to try and be a productive member of society. Who better to explain your experience than Parks and Rec?

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
