For some reason, people think that once you hit a certain age it's socially unacceptable to go see children's movies. The ratings that they put on movies are to place a minimum age limit on it. There has never been an age limit placed on a movie. You're never too old to giggle like a kid at the silly humor that only children's movie can provide you with.
Don't even try to lie... you know that when you see a preview for a new animated Disney, Pixar or DreamWorks movie, you get a little excited. There's no need to hide that excitement. It's okay to still get excited about movies about talking animals or fictional characters. There's no shame in being the only 20-year-old sitting in a movie theater of kids.
The most exciting kid's movies are the ones that are sequels of movies from when you were young. Lately, many movie companies have been releasing sequels of movies from when this generation of 20-year-olds were kids. "Monsters University," a sequel to the 2001 movie "Monsters Inc.," was released in 2013, 12 years later. "Finding Dory" was just released this summer as a sequel to "Finding Nemo" from 2003, a 13-year gap! And it doesn't stop there. "Incredibles 2" is set to be released in 2018 after the original "Incredibles" had been released in 2004. And "Toy Story," possibly the most spaced out movie series, will release the fourth movie in 2019 after the original being released in 1995, 24 years!!! No matter how old you get, you will always get excited about whatever it is that your old favorite movie characters are up to now.
Similarly to sequels of your old favorites, remakes of your favorite kids' movies are equally as exciting. Although they might not always live up to the original, you will always feel the need to go see how they went about "improving" a classic. Most recently, "Pete's Dragon" was remade from the original that came out in 1977. The adults that grew up watching that movie were most likely more excited to see the movie than most kids.
Most movies that are made for teens and young adults now are driven by plots of romance or crude humor. Don't get me wrong, sometimes I'm in the mood for something of that nature. However, children's movies generally have a deeper meaning that speaks much more to the heart and soul. Every now and then we need a little life lesson taught to us by a cute talking animal.
It is important to act mature in most situations but every now and then, it's okay to revert back to the simpler days when you laughed so hard that your belly hurt at your favorite characters from your favorite movies.
