I hopped on the 1D bandwagon just about a year ago thanks to my sorority sisters. I fell quickly for the boys, and as a 20 year old, I have no shame in that. I’m super anal about the music I have on my phone, so these boys should feel #blessed to have made the cut with two albums.
Honestly, I was nervous to see how the group would do without my favorite, Zayn. R.I.P. babe. The other four have continued to slay the music game and have girls all over the world laying down at their feet once again. In case you’ve been living under a rock the past few days (or have poor taste in music), here’s a quick recap of what you should expect.
"Hey Angel"
*Chills down spine* 1D hits you hard with the first track. By the end of the song, you’ll be thinking your name is Angel.
"Drag Me Down"
The rocker anthem that you can put on replay for the next decade. You’ve heard it over and over all semester, and you’re still not sick of it. Even your non-1D pals will happily sing along—it's an easy crowd pleaser.
"Perfect"
What would an album be without at least one dig at an ex? Here’s to you, TSwift! You can actually feel the shade Harry’s throwing her in this track. This song will make you want to have a hot secret weekend with any of the boys as this song plays on repeat the whole time.
(It's also my personal favorite. It's the song I play as soon as someone hands me the aux cord. I’m honestly surprised my boyfriend hasn’t left me on the side of the road a few times.)
"Infinity"
If you were one of the smart people who preordered the album, you’ve had the opportunity to listen to this early. It got you pumped for the new album, but compared to the rest of the tracks, it falls to the back.
"End of the Day"
If there is even the slightest screaming, you know it’s gonna be a good 1D song. The beat will have you snapping your fingers till the “end of the day.” You love who you love, and I’m not afraid to love One Direction after this song/album.
"If I Could Fly"
The first real ballad on the album. If you're not moved to tears when you first hear this, I question you and all of your life decisions. Grab a box of tissues, and have yourself the cry you deserve.
"Long Way Down"
John Mayer, is that you? The deep and soulful track is not the typical 1D we have all learned to love. Still trying to decide my opinion, but I can’t say I hate it.
"Never Enough"
"Never enough, too much”—more like never enough 1D, way too much Justin Bieber. Sorry not sorry, Beliebers. The beat is unlike anything we have heard from the boys and will obviously be added to your road trip playlist.
"Olivia"
Why Olivia? Why not Emily? I felt personally offended at first, but after a few listens, I was too busy drooling over my new love, Louis, to notice. Just kidding—I’m still offended, so I’ll be changing my name.
"What a Feeling"
They’re a pop band, so by nature they must have one annoying pop song. Easily could have had the album without it, but don’t worry boys, we won’t hold it against you.
"Love You Goodbye"
The breakup song that will leave you feeling as if all four members dumped you. Good luck leaving bed for the next few days after hearing this ballad.
"I Want to Write You a Song"
You can write me a song any day, any time, anywhere. This is one of the most innocent songs I have heard in the past year; it's so soothing and sweet. I could easily listen to this on repeat every rainy day. 1D restored my hope for our generation and men everywhere. God bless 1D!
"History"
Skip. Honestly just skip it. Sorry boys, but it's just not your best.
Deluxe Edition:
"Temporary Fix"
Sounds a little too much like “No Control," but that's perfectly OK. This song is also gold. It's worth the extra money for the deluxe album.
"Walking in the Wind"
Confused as to why this jam did not make the normal CD? If you are one of the people who did not splurge for the deluxe edition, please go treat yourself. You won’t regret it, trust me.
"Wolves"
Catchy and light; the perfect blend of each member, and a great end to the album. It will most likely be one of the underrated songs on the album. It's still fabulous, though.
"A.M."
The title drop you’ve been patiently waiting for after the past 16 songs, and the answer Harry is waiting for: Yes, I will stay till the a.m. Baby, I’ll never leave.
Now excuse me while I binge listen and have a dance party alone.
