Going through formal recruitment my freshman year of college was one of the most stressful experiences I’ve ever had. I remember feeling nothing but exhaustion and kept wondering if I would ever find a home in a sorority. I ended up dropping from recruitment, which is now one of my biggest regrets.
Last semester, I gave Greek life another try and went Phi Mu, and thank God I did. I thought for a long time that maybe sorority life just wasn’t for me, but I couldn’t be more wrong. My sisters are some of the greatest people I’ve ever met. I’ve bonded with them over things I thought I would never be able to bond with them over. They lift me up when I’m down. Make me laugh when all I want to do is crawl into a ball and cry. They laugh at all of my stupid jokes. They are the definition of sisterhood, and that’s what makes them so special.
They inspire me every day. They inspire me to be a better leader, a better friend, and a better human being overall. They are true leaders, and they encourage me to follow whatever I aspire to do each and every day. I know that whenever I need some guidance, all I have to do is turn to a sister and they will tell me like it is.
They have increased my confidence and have never judged me for who I am. The very first time I walked through the door, I felt welcomed and appreciated. That’s how everyone should feel in their sorority-- loved. I know I do. That’s when I knew I found my home and knew that this was where I was supposed to be. And honestly, I don’t think there is a better feeling than that.
To put it simply, recruitment is tough. It can be stressful, intimidating, and maybe even a little scary. But I can guarantee you this: You end up where you are meant to be. Maybe it sounds cliché, but it’s the absolute truth. You will find your place. You will find your sisterhood.
So take my word for it—you’ll find your home.
