Recently, I have noticed the sharing of a popular quote on social media. The quote is "don't cross oceans for people who wouldn't cross puddles for you." Up until today, I agreed with this quote. I know far too well how it feels to be the one who loves more, whether it be in friendships or in relationships. I have climbed mountains for people who wouldn't climb staircases for me. Before today, I was cold-hearted about being so warmhearted. I was drawing back from people after realizing my efforts were futile. But today I realized that even when you're giving and giving with no evidence of appreciation or thanks, those are the very days that you should give even more.
There will be people who will knock you down and make you question everything you've ever come to know about human kindness. They will trick you, making you think they are just as kind and caring as you are, then hit you with disappointment. You will be bitter, but you can't let the darkness kill your shine all because of one grey cloud.
Yes, I am telling you, dear reader, that you should cross oceans for someone who wouldn't cross a puddle for you. I'm telling you this because you should not stop the beautiful way you care about people so very deeply that it rocks you to your core just because someone is too blind to see the way it radiates from you. Cross oceans, climb mountains, and run great distances for anyone and everyone. Because if you don't cross oceans and climb mountains and sail seas for someone who doesn't deserve it, you may miss the opportunity of doing it for someone who does deserve it.
Never lose that sparkle in your eye. Never lose the way you watch the leaves blow with the wind till they rustle together and collect on the ground or the way you daydream in class. Don't stop dancing around in your pajamas getting ready for school, and never lose the way you try to see the very best in everyone. Do not let the Debbie-Downers and the doubters dim your shine, lovely. Keep doing anything and everything for everyone, even if they don't deserve it. One day, someone will treat you the same way you've treated everyone else.
