Why You Should Care About The 2016 Presidential Election

The 2016 Presidential Election is going to be an extremely monumental event. There's already a lot of media buzz about it, with candidates left and right releasing statements, doing interviews and participating in debates. There is an incredibly large field of candidates, and a lot of information to sift through. In fact, the entire thing is really, really overwhelming, and for someone who's not very interested in politics, it may seem irrelevant and not worth the time.

But here is my advice to you: do it. Learn about the candidates and about the issues that exist in our country today. Vote.

Because when it comes down to it, whether you are bothered about politics or not, the president we elect will have a large impact on our future. They will have a say in the amount of taxes we pay, the issues our country will focus on the most in the upcoming years, and in some cases, the laws we will have to obey.

The next president will shape our future, and it's important to recognize this and get out there and vote. Although you may not think your vote counts for much (especially in the electoral college system), sitting around and doing nothing is worse. Refusing to take an interest in the future of this country is unwise because your choice (or lack of choice) will affect your future.

Plus, it's not that hard to educate yourself on the political issues this country faces. I'm sure you already have some opinions about some of them! For example, you most likely have an opinion about the legalization of marijuana or gay marriage, or the right to reproductive rights and abortion. You may also have an opinion on the government's spending, and where or how much should be allocated to certain areas of the budget. You may also know a decent amount about foreign policy and our involvement in foreign conflicts. This is because much of what occurs in politics has already affected our lives, and will continue to do so.

That's why it's important to get out there and vote! Do it for yourselves, and do it for the future of our country.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
