I call my Mom at least once a day, if not five. These are a few things I've learned about why it is important to call her on the daily when you don't live at home anymore.
Reason #1
When you go off to college, your Mother becomes an "empty nester". Yes, she has your Dad or other siblings but it still isn't the same. She misses talking to you, hearing about your day, and most of all cares to hear that you are still breathing.
Reason #2
She will give you the advice you need to succeed. If you have a mom like mine, she will tell you straight up what you need to hear. Sometimes you hate that, but most of the time you're happy she is so honest.
Reason #3
As a broke college student or newly graduated "real person", you would love to see some cash coming your way. If you call you're mom and tell her your situation, she most likely will send money your way (because your worth every dime to her). Also, if she didn't pay your rent yet, a call is a nice friendly reminder.
Reason #4
You just failed the hardest test of your life, your stupid boyfriend just broke up with you for the 7th time, your roommates are being terrible. Whatever it may be, you are stressed. You feel like crying it out and your Mom is the only one that could make you feel better (even over the phone).
Reason #5
She will probably stop bugging you as much over text. Yeah, all moms are guilty of texting way too much. They do it out of love but it's still annoying as all hell. I've found a simple call on your way home from class or your drive to work will make her feel like she is still an important person in your life because well, she is.
Reason #6
You are free to speak your mind. Also, you can vent about your friends without them ever finding out.
Reason #7
You just really miss her and she probably misses you lots too.
Reason #8
She will make you less homesick and bonus: she may even put your dog on the phone for you two to talk for awhile
Reason #9
It isn't something most of us like to think about, but tragedy strikes everyday. It's hard to say how many "I love you's" and "I miss you's" you will hear from your Mom again in your lifetime. Let's just say that you want as many as you can get.
Call your Mom. Tell her you love her.
